I am curious about the workflow. Maybe it might be enough to sway me back to Sonar. Right now I am using Live 8 and I am not digging Live 9 at all or the direction Ableton is going into so I am considering selling it and going back to what I know really well which is Sonar. I used Sonar from 2005 to 2012 until i upgraded to X1 and had a **** ton of problems with rewire. However going to Live has made me miss the things I really did like about Sonar when it was working correctly. Since then I have also picked up Maschine and I do not like it as a DAW replacement mostly because I dislike the sequencer and I dislike mixing with it. I miss mixing with Sonar. That is one of my favorite things about Sonar so I am considering coming back if for nothing else mixing reasons because Live's mixer is crap and its very cpu hungry compared to Sonar. Anyway I would love to see someone chime in about their workflow with maschine in sonar as a vst especially if they have a Maschine controller template for Sonar.

use it as i have done a hardware unit with my default template being each pad going to its own audio track, taking advantage of all 16 outs. Can also have each group being sent to its own audio track using half as many outs. Drag and drop audio and midi, sequencing in maschine, sequencing in sonar - many different ways to work so you can keep switching it up till you find your ideal workflow. Not a fan of controller templates. Ill take keyboard shortcuts and a mouse over programming a few rudimentary controls into a midi controller any day.

I love controller templates anything to keep me away from the mouse and keyboard really. If Sonar's mixing and audio tracks were on par it could totally be a DAW replacement for me.  For now I have been using it as a controller to control Live but mixing in Live is not a strong suit though its better than mixing in Maschine. 

xabiton: I'm using Maschine Mikro inside Sonar. For me it is not that great of a fit as I had hoped to use the pads as MIDI triggers for other softsynths in Sonar.

I think Maschine is a pretty cool tool and I like using it but it does fall a bit short for me. The fact that I can't record MIDI from Mikro directly to a MIDI track bugs me...although I don't find the process of dragging it out of Mikro into a track to be that much of a pain it just isn't very transparent.

Wow you can't use it as your midi keyboard in Sonar? That is exactly how I use it in Live. I do all of my sequencing in Live with it because I dislike Sonar's sequencer that is crazy. Well maybe me going back to Sonar with it is a bad idea i'll continue to look into it. I wonder if anyone has made a Sonar template for Maschine I bet that might help. I also wonder if its the difference between the main maschine and the mikro. I have the big maschine MK 2

There was an issue with the metronome count in, but in x2a its fixed.

What is it you want to do with it that you worry is missing? It's a midi device and sonar will read whatever it can throw out like any other. Choose maschine as the input and configure maschine appropriately, like you would do in any other daw.

What was the count in issue that was fixed in X2A? I wonder if that was the same issue I was having with rewiring Reason into Sonar. I am not worried about missing anything I just want to work how I want to work. I like the feeling of working on a drum machine that I get from working on Maschine. That workflow is built into it for Live as well with a template so I can arm tracks, control the transport, launch scenes and patterns ect all in Live directly from the Maschine hardware. I am wondering if I can get a similar workflow with it for Sonar. I kind of doubt it since Sonar is more like a console and tape machine than a midi focused tool like Live but that is in large part why I miss Sonar.

You can run Machine as a fairly configurable MIDI controller, it's one button press away.


--OR--


Enable MIDI Out on the Maschine Plugin (this is a Sonar Setting).  Then the Machine plugin can emit MIDI (it's one of the outputs) that you can direct at other tracks in your project.  You can either sequence them or play them live.
