First post, so hopefully I'm allowed a mulligan. A week ago I purchased the download version of X2 Essential as an upgrade to my old Home Studio 7XL. On each attempted installation, everything progresses normally until after the extraction process when this message occurs: "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3" with the resultant "ABORT RETRY IGNORE" option. Hitting IGNORE brings up a couple of dozen files, and "ignoring" them results in an unworkable installation. (ABORT works, but it undoes the installation.) I know there have been a number of posts on this before after reviewing the first 30 pages of the forum. Remedies I have tried: 1) Logging on as administrator, including running .exe files as administrator. 2) Disabling AVG antivirus. 3) Running registry cleaner. 4) Uninstalling and reinstalling every single "C++" file on my computer (per recommendation of customer support). I have never had any trouble downloading or any software installation problems on this computer. In fact I just downloaded and installed Kompakt Player a few days ago with no issues whatsoever. Computer info: Windows 7 service pack 1 i7 920 chip, 2.66 Ghz, 9.0 GB ram I'm hoping that I have ignored something completely obvious. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions before I become a customer of (fill in the blank). John

RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3

The first thing I would try is to right click the installation file and choose "run as administrator."

If you (or the application) do not have permission to write to a folder, you will sometimes get this message.

Sounds like he already did that, slarta.

I think you should try downloading again with Firefox or another browser that has a download manager. If you already have try it again anyway. There was a problem when X2 came out with the file extensions but I think they fixed it and it was isolated to IE. If it still fails maybe contact support to see if they can send you new download links. Maybe their server chewed up the files somehow. Their server are notoriously buggy.

Also you should email tech support with as much detail about your system and the problem you are having. If you can include screenshots of the errors. Make sure you use the actual tech support email so you get the proper form. It will generate a support ticket number. Then give them a call on a weekday (toll free if you are in the US) and reference that ticket number. That way they can bring up the info on their screen which will save time and avoid confusion.

All the contact info can be found here.

I did right click and run the application as administrator. I'm considering uninstalling/reloading Windows 7 on the off chance that one of my OS files is corrupted. I've tried everything else, and I know it will be another four days until I hear from technical support. Thanks for your response!

BTW I think the bakers have said that the Run As Admin problem has been solved with X2. Not sure how accurate that is though. I still use run as admin for everything anyway just to avoid any possible problems.

Beepster, I did use Firefox. I suppose it could be a corrupted download file. I wonder why technical didn't suggest that?

Yeah... if you call them you won't have to wait for them to email back (they take forever responding to emails). Unfortunately they aren't open on the weekend so you will have to wait until monday. However if you are willing to do a fresh install of Windows it really wouldn't hurt. Installing on a fresh system is always preferable. Once you get it up and running be sure to read the system optimization guide in the manual or just ask tech support to send you a link or some tips. They'll hook you up. They got my system running nice and smooth. Cheers.

I don't think it's that common and I find they sometimes overlook stuff. However we had another thread recently with this exact error I think so something is going on.

If you've got some extra cash to toss at your system you could get a phone consultation with StudioCat who build DAWs and offer support. They'll get you zipping along a lot better than Cake tech would more than likely. I think I saw someone here say they paid $100 for an in depth phone set up. Just so you know. One of the guys, Jim, from StudioCat posts here regularly. He seems like a good dude and anyone who's dealt with him, including guys who run big pro studios, sing his praises.
