  • Deleting whole measures from a song (SOLVED!)

I would imagine this is a simple task, but I can't find it anywhere in the help files.
I want to remove 4 bars from the intro to a song. Do I have to manually delete the clips and then manually select the clips after the deletion and move them to the new location?
If I can insert a measure of time across tracks, surely removing a measure is the reverse of this process?

Select measures at the timeline, Edit > Delete Special, make sure "delete hole" is checked.

Thanks for your answer, but what do you mean by "select measures at the timeline"?
Delete SPecial is greyed out as I have nothing selected, which was my question, do I have to manually click on every clip across all the tracks?

Select all the tracks by pressing Ctrl + A OR clicking on the track numbers one at a time in the Track pane while holding Ctrl OR clicking the track number of the first track, hold Shift then clicking the bottom track's number OR click and drag your cursor along the track numbers OR in the Console view do pretty much any of those click commands on the track numbers at the bottom of the console. Once your tracks are selected do a range select and do what scook said.

You should work through the tuts in the manual. Selection options are basic stuff and imperative to working with Sonar. They are discussed in the tuts fairly early on.

And by Select Measure at the timeline he means to put your cursor over the bottom half of the timeline with the Smart Tool (it should turn into an "I" shape) then click and drag over the range you want to remove. This is called a "Range Selection" and again is a very basic but important function for editing audio.

Thanks Beepster.
Clicking in the lower half of the timeline didn't give me an "I" shape but it still worked!
Yes, you're right, just have to spend a little more time with the tutorials!

Ah, right. It stays an arrow. I was thinking of the range selection cursor in the Clips Pane. The tuts only take a a couple afternoons but will save you a TON of time trying to figure out how to do the basics. Well worth it. You might want to snag X2 Power by Scott Garrigus when it comes out as well. His stuff is easier to understand than the manual.

I forgot to add that I had already looked at the help files before I posted (I'm a responsible Sonar user after all!) and I couldn't find the info I needed.
I just spent another 20 minutes looking through in case I missed it the first time and I can't find any reference to your tip about range selection.

It is all described in Tutorial 6 - Editing Your Music pg 143. That section would take you maybe 10-20 minutes to work through and it is hugely important. There are more intricate editing features but that tut will cover most of the common functions you will be doing over and over again in Sonar.

If you don't have the pdf http://www.cakewalk.com/S...reader.aspx/2007013290 Some find it easier to search, for example "delete measure", after a few other hits, will ultimately take you to page 713 for the step by step instructions The only downside of the pdf is that it is not updated like the online help.

Another reason to get Scott's book is that "SONAR Power!" series lack the errors that are found in the manuals.
