@ Chuckybaby. If one does make a mistake with the registry and Windows will not start, does not make the puter a paperwieght. Safemode may still work and if one has backed up the registry, they can fix it then. If not, one would just have the tedious task of re-installing the OS and everything else.

On a good note, go with Bit's advice. Don't worry about it. You buying trouble and who needs that?

he didnt say he had backed up his registry, nor did he say ha had an extra copy of windows hanging around to re install.
by the sound of his level of understanding the registry,it doesnt sound like he would be up to booting in safe mode and fixing it either does it?..lol

I think my advise and warning was right on.
the registry is one of the most dangerous parts of your computer.
if your a novice to it,like the op has made clear, then im not going to asume,he can boot up in safe mode and fix his reg,or has back up disks hanging around.

come on man, seriously, what are you bored or something..lol
paper weight !

My advice is CCleaner, like everyone for the most part here...I use it a lot and backup EVERY TIME...never had an issue.

I would have to ask you if your bored. AFAIK, only E-Machines distribute without the OS disk and everyone has some kind of restore disks. The warning is right on but the effect is not.

Come on man.

Come on man.

Are you seriously trying to make me believe that e machines are the only computers sold now a day that dont come with os disks.
im not sure the last time you bought a computer but since around 2010 almost all computers sold have recovery partitions instead and documented paperwork instructing you to make your own recovery disks.

im being totaly serious here,

i was just wondering why you decided to quote me thats all, your comment was along the lines as i gave bogus info or something.
i was only trying to help ?
why not quote someone next time who isnt trying to help rather than being the person who feels he always has to top everyones comment.

To the OP:

As stated above, CCleaner is good advice.

Backing up your registry is good advice.

If you do try and make changes, make sure you research carefully what you do.

If you make a change and some programs don't work properly afterward, restore your registry with the backup you made. CCleaner will ask you to make a back up as well. Say yes.

If you make a change and Windows will not start, your computer is NOT a paperwieght. You will have to use your restore disks to get your puter up and running again. If it is a partitioned restore and you have not made the backup when you got the puter. You would have to call the manufacturer to see if you still can make one. If you are still without a way to restore, you'll just have to buy a copy of Windows. Better to spend $100, $200 or whatever Windows cost than throw away a puter that cost $1,000 or more/less.
