  • R-Mix is causing MIDI Playback to skip playing some notes

Ran into an interesting issue, and wanted to know if others can duplicate/ran into it as well.

Have a project that I was using R-Mix on in real time on a vocal, that I wanted to add a bassline to using NI's Massive.
Dropped in Massive as a simple instrument track, entered the notes via keyboard (there was quite a bit of latency), and then went to hand-edit it.

On playback, I noticed that it would not play some of the notes that I entered.  I tried deleting notes, re-adding them, didn't work.
I found out that moving the Now time caused DIFFERENT notes to be missed...hmm...

Saved the project, restarted, and played back again.  No change.
Changed the instrument to True Piano.  Still, same issue.
So, then, I got the bright idea to delete all the other tracks except the MIDI one.  That worked, every time, no matter where I put the Now time.

So, then I kinda guessed it was probably the vocal processing track, where I had Fabfilter's EQ and R-mix in the FX bin.  Deleted that track, and everthing worked fine again.  Put it back, turned off the Fabfilter Eq -- broken again.  So did both a freeze and and archive of the track -- that worked.  Also, just turning off R-Mix, it worked. The culprit seems to be R-mix, then.

I don't think it's my system-  I have a 1st Gen i7 that I don't even get into the 5% cpu usage (even with R-mix).

So, I think there's an issue with X2 being able to handle MIDI playback events when it's processing high-latency plugins.  This might explain some of the problems that I and others have seen with MIDI playback.

I'll file a bug report tomorrow, but just wanted to put this out there to see if others have seen it as well.

You might want to check the midi-buffer size (Edit->Preferences->MIDI->Playback and Recording->Prepare Using).  Increasing this value may solve your issue.

its funny i have a laptop that im running at round 500samples of buffer in wasapi mode with the realtek onboard audio with 100msec midi buffer and plays like a dream with more than 20 midi tracks - no dropped notes. when i hook up my fast track ultra in asio mode i have to up my midi buffers to 200-250 andasio buffer to 750samples or so. go figure.

Hi,

I've encouter the same problème : some non playing notes. I can't tell precisely in what conditions, but it was in projects with at least 14 to 20 midi tracks and above the same amount of VSTi.

It was on a laptop with Indigo DJ soundboard. I think (but I'm note sure) I had the same with the same laptop and an Multiface (PCMCIA card)

I'll try the midi buffer trick. Thanks.

Raise your MIDI playback buffers in the Preference Menu and it will stop. This is not your ASIO or WDM buffers/slider
