  • Sonar X2, Echo Mona card, bumps analog outputs

Has anybody experienced any issues while using Sonar X2 in Win 7 64 bit- with the Echo Mona (or any Echo card) where it loads the outputs until you load a file - any file- New, older one). It says the analog outputs are not available and it only keeps the SPDIF one on the list. This is when I check off ASIO (WDM is worse) It's weird - because the card is working fine with Sonar 8 and Sonar XI Expanded. I just purchased X2 - and I am not getting to use it because I can't monitor in my setup without the analog outs. HELP!!!!! Has anybody experienced that.

I'm having a somewhat similar issue with my Echo Gina 24 card, although it is not exactly the same.  I figured out that a different audio program wasn't releasing the driver correctly, and so the analog outputs didn't show up as available in Sonar if I went into it after using the other program.  The workaround for me is make sure the driver hog program is shut down, and then I go into some other audio program that is able to grab and release the driver, before I start X2.  Just playing a few seconds of a YouTube video before I open X2 does the trick.

You might want to try that and see what happens.  Make sure that everything on your computer that uses audio is shut down first, then open your browser and play something in YouTube and then close it.  Then open X2 and see if your outputs are available.

My music machine is not on the internet - but I'll play some MP3's. Thanks- but why X2 - and not X1 or 8??? Aggghhhhhhhhh! Thanks for taking the time. A.

Do you have your project track outputs set to "None" and using Sends to output to your bus(s)? That will give you the missing outputs warning. I never use the regular track outputs any more and I get that message every time I open a project. It won't hurt anything and you can deselect "ask this every time" or whatever it says if you don't want to see the message.

If I'm misunderstanding the question, my apologies.

Sorry... I did misunderstand. Maybe pop open the Echo software to see if something is wrong there.

I was also gonna say you should run the Wave Profiler in the Preferences menu but I can't seem to find it in X2. Weird. It's usually under Preferences > Audio... but I forget  whether it was in Devices or Drivers or one of the other subscreens. Maybe that was just X1.

You could always call support to see if they can help you out.

Lucas, I got loads of Echo cards here. Layla 24/96, Gina, Audiofire 8 and 12...I've NEVER seen anything like this. Are you leaving drivers checked that you are not using? I make sure that only the input and output drivers that I physically use are checked on Sonar's options.

I'm sure you're probably doing that too, so I have no idea why this could be happening. I only have one issue in Sonar for all my Echo cards...and it's nothing remotely close to what you are experiencing here. I'd definitely contact Cake support on this. If you call now, there's only a 2 minute wait time. I just got off the phone with them for something else..

I didn't know you were using Echo stuff, Danny. I have a Layla 3G installed but I use my Focusrite Scarlett instead now. I was thinking of trying to daisy chain the Layla via optical connector to the Scarlett for extra inputs. You ever done that?

Cheers... and sorry for the OT.

Yeah Beeps we have always enjoyed the Echo stuff. We have an RME ff 800 too. Lots of pc's doing all sorts of jobs. LOL!

Nah I've never done any chaining before. Never had a reason to. I usually have enough ins and outs to where I don't need to do that.

For example, one of my pc's has just one Layla in it. Another has two Layla's in it for 16 in 16 out. They sync right up.

The other boxes don't need much power anyway...and at the end of the day, I have a Tascam DM 4800 so I have plenty of ins and outs there with loads of power. You can try that optical thing....but you'll need to see which of those is the better clock. I believe my main engineer at the other studio uses that technique. We have a Focusrite pre that runs into the Audiofire 12. I'm not sure how he has that configured. I can call and ask if you want me to? It would only take me a minute?

Thanks, Danny but don't make a special call just for that. Maybe if you remeber next time you're talking to the guy but it's no biggie. I won't be messing around with that stuff any time soon. The only reason I'm thinking of doing things that way is so I can get a couple extra mic inputs without setting up my mixer (so I have 4 xlr ins for recording acoustic guit and vocals or maybe micing my amp in fancy ways). I had a few problems with the Echo when I first got started (dropouts/crashes... something about my MOBO's PCI slot being bridged) but an optimization fixed it however I had already bought the Scarlett and I like the Pres better on it. The nice thing though is now with both if I ever end up with a full sound room again I think I can get a full 12 inputs at 96k or 16 at 44.1k using a mixer and the optical connector method.

But yeah, man... don't worry about it. You're a busy man. I hope you've been well. Cheers.
