Too late! LOL!

My engineer Joey said: Use the Layla 3G as your main interface, and use the Scarlet for additional inputs.

If you are using 3g as the main interface, you use optical adat out from Scarlet into the optical adat in on the 3g. And that should come up perfectly IF those options are available. We don't have the 3G so we don't know for sure what the 3G has. He's using lightpipe or something (all this stuff is beyond me LOL and why they keep me away from there at only once per week)

He said if that doesn't work, you can email him or he'll call you. He'll do the research on it for you and totally straighten you out when you're ready. He was in the middle of something now or he would have looked some stuff up for you. I told him you weren't ready for it right now, but you know....he's like me and we like to help whenever we can. So no worries, we got you covered when you decide to go for this. :)

Heheh. That's awesome, Danny. Thanks. I may take him up on that offer at some point as I'm concerned about that bridged legacy PCI slot becoming a bottleneck but as I said it seemed to start working better after optimizing the system. I pretty much abandoned the Layla after I got the Scarlett though because it just seems to work and the pres are good. I do however have the Layla card installed (but since I moved I haven't hooked up the actual box to it). Also this card is pretty darned old so I'm not sure if they have changed anything (like whether they are now sold with a PCIe connection or what) so that might be weird as well. Maybe I can just by a new card for the thing that's work with PCIe and use the same box as it's only the connection that seems to be the problem (which actually may not even be a problem at this point).

And just so you know the "lightpipe" he is referring to is that squarish/trapezoid looking connector on the back that you would hook up an ADAT machine to. It (as far as I know) is a very simple connection. Basically you have an in and an out (or just an in or just an out). You hook up the optical cable and then in your DAW i/o preferences the extra inputs/outputs should be visible just like regular analog i/o's.

I actually just took a look at the back of the Scarlett and it only has an optical input so the Scarlett would definitely have to be the master whereas the Echo (as far as I can recall) has both an in and an out.

It's pretty cool stuff. I think it was Lawajawa on here that pointed me in the right direction as far as using those connections. Anyway... hope that makes sense and thanks again.

And OP... totally sorry for jacking your thread but yanno... this is cool stuff. ;-)

Has anybody experienced any issues while using Sonar X2 in Win 7 64 bit- with the Echo Mona (or any Echo card) where it loads the outputs until you load a file - any file- New, older one). It says the analog outputs are not available and it only keeps the SPDIF one on the list. This is when I check off ASIO (WDM is worse) It's weird - because the card is working fine with Sonar 8 and Sonar XI Expanded. I just purchased X2 - and I am not getting to use it because I can't monitor in my setup without the analog outs. HELP!!!!! Has anybody experienced that.

I don’t have the echo but I have seen this behavior when the operating system or some application has not released the audio drivers properly.

Now I get sound in the Sonar- but only with MME drivers - with lots of clicks and pops. None of the Sonar applications (8, XI or X2) will give me any analog outputs with the Mona. I was chugging along nicely with XP and 32 bit. The Mona (coupled with the Sonar) does not seem to like being in 64 bit land. Is anybody experiencing this? Guess it's time for a new card.

I meant to say that I couldn't get any analog outputs with ASIO or WDM drivers in the Sonar 64 bit

I wouldn't give up so soon - unless you really want a new interface, of course.  Once in a while, I find myself thinking that might be a good idea - the gear we're using sometimes seems really ancient, in computer time.  But, for me, it still works pretty well.

Checking at the Echo website, I see that the driver for your Mona and for my Gina 24 should be the same since we're both on Win 7 (x64).  When you look in at the driver version for Mona in the Windows Control Panel, what is it?  It should be 8.6.  Another thing to check is in the Device Manager in the Control Panel (view by type) and see what is listed under "Sound, video, and game controllers".  If you see things you don't actually use, disable them.

By the way, in the Readme for this driver, they say that if you don't see the inputs/outputs you expect, it's probably because some other program is using them.  That's pretty much what happened to me, but it wasn't exactly easy figuring out which program was the culprit, since even after I shut the program down, it was still "using" the outputs.  The Readme suggests that the Microsoft Wavetable Synth could be the problem, and they say you should make sure that the application (Sonar) doesn't show it as a MIDI output device.  It's a little counter-intuitive to go into the MIDI stuff to try to solve an audio problem, but sure enough, that Synth does show up under MIDI devices in Sonar, and should be unchecked.

I bought the Mona new- probably more than 12 years ago- it's been so solid - and great sounding. That is why this is so frustrating. For me- plug-in wise, etc. going to 64 bit was a big deal. I tried a dual boot system- but I could never get further than installing the Midi interface or the Mona - before one windows or another would black or blue screen it. I am talking about many, many weeks of this. So- off to 64 bit- at first- I installed 3 main Sonars (maybe that's the problem)- but I thought that I would get all the old effects as I worked my way forward. Sonar 8 worked fine ASIO and Sonar XI worked fine ASIO. I had the newer 8.5 - then 8.6 driver for the Echo Mona - that is for Win 7 64 bit. Then I read what X2 had to offer - so I purchased the upgrade on a download. That is where the trouble started. It would talk about the outputs as unavailable or wrong audio format. If I did not load any file - the analog outputs would be listed. As soon as I loaded a new file setup- or an exusting one- the analog outputs aren't listed in ASIO or WDM- when I choose the ASIO- says they are unavailable. At that point, they were still available in XI and 8. Now I can't get the ASIO going in any of the versions. Only the MME works- but with bad latency and clicks and pops. I had a 40 minute talk with Sonar (don't know what that will cost) - got no results. Echo pointed me to ASIO4 ALL - which was greyed out when UI tried to load it in the Sonar. I know it can work- because it was for a while. I can;t face another Window install - but I might clear out the Sonars - and try again. I have been changing the drivers- when I load the software - the control panel shows the one I installed - but the driver properties show the one before the install. I was able to use the update driver tab once to match them up- but now that's greyed out also. How might I clear out any link to that soundcard? I have pulled it out of the slot- and uninstalled the software - and started again- but it stll doesn;t want to allow me the ASIO drivers. I am not feeling well. Bye
