  • User Error? X2 does not always stay centered on highlighted track when zooming in..

Is it.. again.. JUST me? :O)

I find when zooming in, that often the track window focuses in the top tracks no matter which track is highlighted, meaning I have to zoom in, and then scroll down to whatever track I am working on. It is annoying, and not very clever!

I think there is a setting somewhere that controls this but I forget. I just stick to manually slogging through my zooming because there are TONS of intricate zooming features to learn and memorize and I'd rather spend that time learning other elements.

Actually I think I may have found something but it might only be for Mouse Wheel zooming. In the track view select the Tracks menu > Mouse Wheel Zoom Options then select Zoom On Active Track under Zoom In and Zoom Out.

Cheers.

Wow, didn't know this! Thanks! (although it's the Options menu, not the Tracks menu)
Shouldn't this be in Preferences?

Is it? Oops... sorry about that. I must have been trying to type Track View Options menu but had a brain fart.

And I've said it before... there should be one huge global menu with every single menu option in it sorted under sub menus. Kind of like God Mode in Windows 7. That way if you forget where something is you can just go to the Global menu and find it and it's usual location. It would also be good to learn what options are available to the user.

Anyway... glad you found that useful.

I just realized this mouse-wheel zooming suddenly stops working. I understand it's possible to Alt-mouse-scroll both in the Clips pane and on the timeruler. But...

For example, could you try this?

[Zoom In]
Horizontal: At Now Time
Vertical: On Active Track
[Zoom Out]
Same as above
Simultaneous Horizontal and Vertical Zoom: Off

After setting this, I Alt-mouse-scroll in the Clips pane. It works. Then I Alt-mouse-scroll on the Time Ruler. No response. Then I go back to the Clips pane and Alt-mouse-scroll again. No response at all.

I switched it back to the default setting (all 'At Cursor') and tried the same thing. In this case, Alt-mouse-scroll, again, stops working in the Clips pane, but on the Time Ruler it keeps working.

Weird. Is this another X2 Essential-only bug?

I'm not at my DAW right now but I can't even use the scroll wheel on my trackball in X2. It'll work for a second (albeit it's extremely jumpy/jittery) then it will just stop working. Drives me nuts because now I have to have a mouse hooked up to the computer as well just to scroll and the only thing I really scroll in is the ProChannel because it doesn't have BLEEPING scrollbar.

It might just be the trackball screwing up but I have a feeling Sonar is just being a jerk to my trackball. Very annoying.

Maybe the OP can try the above if he's still reading this?

@Beep: You need a new mouse.

Naw. I love my trackball but sadly can't afford to replace it. They cost like a $100. The hilarious part is the mouse I now have hooked up for scrolling has a sticky left click button so it constantly double clicks everything. I'm always bouncing back and forth between the two. lol

I might check to see if the trackball has any new drivers but I had updated it already last spring.
