Hi all,
I am new to the forum and also into recording and editing..
I did a MIDI recording from roland e60 arranger. But the cake walk project
contains vertical lines and i could see marked p1, p2 ,p3 ....etc.. Actually what bothers me 
is i could hear noise like cracking or beating at these points. Does MIDI re cording
contain vertical lines? i have seen only horizontal dots and dashes.. Could anyone help me??

i think what you are seeing is a midi track but possibly a staff view i cant really tell by your discription.
how are you connecting this device to sonar?

are you using the roland to trigger softsynths?
correct?

do you have a soundcard,or are you using your computers soundcard?

please give me a small list of what your using(computer,soundcard,sonar version(its the sonar LE version right?)
and we'll figure this out for you.

you need to make sure your device is checked under preferences first
then rather than adding a track and adding the roland,
just simply choose/insert/soft synth/pick a synth,EXAMPLE:
cakewalks keyboard.
this will insert the keyboard and track all at once.
when you record with midi,your not going to see an audio signal but rather little dots/dashes if you will.

these dashes represent the notes you played when you recorded.
see?
when you play back..sonar reads the doshes you recorded and plays them back through the keyboard.
just like you did..its kinda like sonar recorded your movements and is now playing them back.
see,it sounds logical,hence the word ,record.  :)

i will check back on this thread and help you out.
your about to find out you are using the best software in digital audio.
im guessing your version of sonar was bundled with the roland?
i should be a fortune teller.

In the Piano Roll view (PRV), vertcal lines indicate the velocity of the notes.
In the Track view, vertical lines could indicate pitch bend, velocity or other controller data.
Can you post a screen shot?

@ chukebaby: . I played and recorded on a roland e60, and played back to record as a MIDI file. I used a usb cable to connect my Keyboard to my computer(there is no special interface).
I am using a Dell laptop, and sonar LE. This was not bundled with Roland. I will attach the screen shot
and cwp file. But i cudnt find how to attach a file and how much is the max size of the file.. My file is
around 500kb.
@57gregy: Thank you for the reply. ok that may be pitch bend. i am also using sustain pedal. but
why the noise?? cracking and clapping noise??
cud u pls direct me, how to attach a screen shot or a cwp file here??
