When I open Sonar X2 each time why do I have to open Properties, press OK before I have any sound? Have to do this each time. Thanks.

i dont follow you chasmcg,

do you mean every project that opens goes straight to preferences?
or you need to open preferences for a setting?
a little vague here sir.
please forgive me.

a little more info maybe i can help.

(you also might benefit from filling in your signiture/at the bottom of your posts)what kind of soundcard are you using ?
system specs=CPU,RAM,HD,exc. ???

chuck, when I initially open a project in Sonar X2 the sound doesn't work. Press the space bar, play the song and there's no sound. Press P on my keyboard (open Properties), Click OK (don't have to do anything else) and I have sound. I've tried this on 2 different projects and it's the same for both.

my guess would be that sonar has lost your soundcard (drivers).

what is your soundcard and which driver mode are you using?

like i said in my first post to you.

with out specs,we are merly playing a guessing game.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Info below in signature (I hope). Oh, don't know what you mean by 'what driver mode am I in?'

you should be able to look in preferences/drivers and see the driver type you are using.
in this case it should be set to ASIO.
what i think is happening is your soundcard is somehow being disconnected each time you open sonar.

now this can happen for a few different reasons, driver conflict, crashes.

in thats same preference menu look in playback/your soundcard should have check marks next to it.
can you confirm this?

next time you open a project, before you click on preferences(or what your calling properties)take a look at your master fader in/out.
if its blank, than this will confirm your soundcard is lost apon start up.

once you confirm this we can move on to a solution.

Yes, it's Asio. The "Asio4all v2 SonarPDR" always pops up each time Sonar X2 is opened.

Here's a screenshot. http://chasms.com/_abboso/abbo1.htm

As you can see the actual asio for my card is grayed out.

"take a look at your master fader in/out."

Don't know exactly where this is. I've had Sonar for awhile but have been using FL Studio and occasionally play around with Sonar to see if if I might like it.

ASIO4All is a third party wrapper for use with Software that only runs in ASIO mode and audio interfaces that only supply WDM drivers. In your case SONAR can run in either ASIO or WDM mode and your audio interface has both native ASIO and WDM drivers. You might want to uninstall the ASIO4All stuff and use the manufacturers driver or at least deselect the ASIO4All drivers (both input an output) and select the native M-Audio driver.

scook, thanks. I could have sworn that I had tried that and it didn't work. But now it does. Can you believe it? User error.
