Hello all,

I have been having nothing but problems with Sonar Platinum since I installed it and I am very frustrated with this at this point.

There is nothing to tell me why its crashing?

I am recording audio for 20 mins, then it crashes.
I load a plug in (Dimension Pro) tweak it and try to play, Sonar crashes!!!
Simple audio editing, no specific time... Sonar crashes.
I have installed the latest updates from Command Center and still crashing!

Before Sonar Platinum, Sonar X2 producer Edition ran like a dream. I need to get this fixed ASAP. HELP!!!

Anyone else having issues with Sonar crashing like this?

P.S. I am not using any third party plugins at this point and it is a clean install of Windows 7 64bit with all the latest OS updates from Microsoft. See below, the crash report from Windows:

If you haven't already done it I recommend that you contact technical support.  I have had occasional crashes but nothing consistent.  Also, if you can find some way to consistently cause the crash then it might help you or technical support pinpoint the problem.

Sorry your having these issues.

Reginald,

I will be contacting support now, just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue?

I have tried everything I can to pinpoint the crash, but to me.. It is completely random. Sometimes I can use Sonar for an hour without issue then it crashes. Other times, its a few minutes. Always different operations. So impossible to pinpoint to be frank.

On to Support, lets see what they say. I can guarantee that they won't offer me money for my down time?

+1 to contacting tech support. Although the problem reporter didn't catch this, it looks like it created the dump files.

"A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows" hints at interface driver issues or a background process that is preventing SONAR from maintaining consistent streaming. What interface are you using? Have you tried running a latency monitor to see if that catches anything on your system?

Probably a machine configuration issue if plugins work, to make absolutely sure please check to see if it runs in Sonar safe mode:

If it still crashes please update your interface drivers and firmware from manufacturers site. What is your interface/driver and firmware version BTW?

Also if you have an Intel machine please check here:
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Your could also try running Sonar as administrator.

Also I know you say you are up to date with windows update, but have you checked the optional updates? Note windows update often needs running several times.

Finally temporary disable your virus scanner to see if it makes a difference

You may consider a BIOS update from your motherboard/PC manufacturer. Also update the display drivers. That's probably the last thing to do.

Thanks..

JD:   it is a clean install of Windows 7 64bit with all the latest OS updates from Microsoft.
goto motherboard home page - support - and do chipset/inf drivers or AMD as you didn't give motherboard info...

Thank you all. I have sent a message to support so waiting a response. In the mean time I will try your other suggestions from above. Thank you.

I will follow up once resolved, "if resolved."

If X2 was running without any problems on the same machiene then there´s nothing to do except waiting for a Sonar upadte..

Submarin,

That is a good point. It seems everyone is blaming my audio drivers for this issue but as you pointed out... I ran Sonar X2 without any issues. As soon as I upgraded to Sonar Platinum, that is when all my issues started.

So, prior to Sonar Platinum, I had recently re-installed Windows 7 64-bit, performed all of Microsoft's Updates and Service packs, installed all the latest system drivers, motherboard drivers, chip-set, audio, etc...

Recorded on Sonar X2 without any freezes, crashes, lock-up, etc.

Installed Sonar Platinum and now I am having nothing but problems. Drop outs, crashes, freezes, system hangs, etc... All at random times so I cannot pinpoint what is causing it.

My audio interface is: Native Instruments Kontrol 1 (with latest drivers installed direct from their website).

Support got back to me with the same assumption, Audio drivers! It only dawned on me after Submarin reminded be that I had no issues prior to the upgrade. This in my eyes, is a Sonar Platinum bug.

*** Pending resolution ***

I've been using my rock solid X3 as Plt doesn't work hardly at all on my machine.

I updated Plt the other day - in safe mode as apparently bdfsfltr causes BSOD when updating normally. Anyway, thought I'd try it out again today. Very slow to load projects. Worked okay on one for 20/30 minutes. Finished and loaded another, added a VST instrument, started playing with it and Plt STOPPED WORKING! (again). Opened the same project in X3 and no problems...loaded much faster as well. Lucky for me I haven't uninstalled X3...unlucky as I paid the full upgrade price for a piece of software that doesn't work on my machine, despite feedback always pointing to everything else except Sonar Plt itself. However, from my work perspective, I need to achieve music not stuff around with something that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I trust X3, I don't trust Plt. X3 works, Plt doesn't!
