What worked for me was...
Shut Sonar down
 go to ... C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum
and rename or delete aud.ini
restart Sonar...
cleaned mine right up

Hope this helps

Fabio -

I am with you. Very upset ATM with Cakewalk as they have taken my £20 for the month and I haven't been able to get any work done without jumping through hoops and reopening Sonar after each crash or freeze. I have even hat to set up Auto save under Preferences to save me at the random times of crashes and freezes.

I would hope that Cakewalk would be fair to us and give me my next free due to all these issues, but we all know that is wishful thinking.

I am still waiting for a second response form Cakewalk in regards to this issue, until then... I cannot move forward and complete mixes for my very unhappy clients. So in the end, Cakewalk wins and I loose. They get my money, I get a bogus application that doesn't work as well as the potential of loosing business due to my down time.

If I knew things would turn out like this, I would have just stayed on Sonar X2.

To anyone else considering the upgrade or maybe a first time purchase, I would think twice. Sonar Platinum is basically a digital paper weight!

BOGUS!!!

DeeringAmps,

I will give that a try when I get home and see what happens, although this was not a suggestion from Cakewalk Support? I will try it anyway, cheers!

Thanks Meh - for the advice, fingers crossed it works or I might be throwing my PC out the window out of pure frustration.

Did you see my post?
As I suggested thinking your audio drivers and firmware are not to blame because it works perfectly in earlier apps or different app is bogus. Please do not jump to that conclusion. Software has dependencies and uses device drivers in different ways and there is absolutely no harm in trying it anyway. When you run out of options check my last post.

Always backup.

Thanks.

Edit - Sorry I see you are up to date with drivers/firmware (sorry I misread) but I wanted you to know that device drivers/firmware could still be an issue even if it works with other apps. There are other suggestions in my post you may have missed... Renaming AUD.INI is a good suggestion. Cheers x

For those who have getting BSOD's or freezes it's almost certainly device drivers, motherboard , firmware, chip set drivers or other hardware problem. Generally Sonar would just crash and not windows otherwise. Sonar does not operate at the OS level. What it interacts with is your audio interface, display, mouse, storage ,memory, CPU and keyboard (this in the most likely order to fail). It will also interact with other devices plugged in. If Sonar actually triggers these symptoms it's down to this or the windows OS itself (hence you run windows update). So you've got to look at updating via windows update, and updating your firmware and device drivers first. You then consider reinstalling windows or ripping out/replacing hardware until it stops the crashes (assuming your system isn't overheating or you haven't got a dodgy PSU).I can't remember the last time I saw a legit third party app that crashes or freezes windows that wasn't resolved by fixing something that wasn't along these lines.

Again I'm just talking about BSOD's and freezes.

Cheers...

Thanks Meh, will give that a go again. Yes, have tried it before.

All I'm saying is that X3 works, Plt doesn't...and who has the time to re-install windows and chase hardware potential issues to try and pinpoint why one piece of software isn't working but another piece of software from the same company is? It's a waste of time, money and resources for me...I'd rather just make music and get on with it.

If I build a machine in the future I might try Plt again. Currently it's a wasted upgrade.

Not to say I don't appreciate other member trying to help with this issue. I'm just letting it go...

I would add having to install windows or having to start playing with the hardware is rare. As other software is working I still suspect it's windows update/device drivers/firmware/bios that will fix it if AUD.INI doesn't. I am assuming new projects are effected. Ta. Anyway understood good luck.

If it's worth anything... I had consistent crashing. Inexpiable... hopefully they will determine something from my .dmp file.  I opened the same project in X3e and it's been stable as a rock. This is definitely a Platinum problem. Thank God for my old version.
