I'm having the same issues, it got ridiculous Friday night, my singer would do one line and I would immediately save. It was freezing every 10 minutes. Meters would be stuck, no message about sending the crash to Cakewalk would come up. My system would let me alt ctl dlt to get to task manager where I would have to end task on Sonar. But once back to my desktop, I couldn't open Sonar, I would have to do a complete system restart, then repeat the process. Kinda stifles the creative process a bit, and it's so annoying that I'm paying monthly for it and it doesn't work. I'm at work right now, so I don't have all my info, I'm running around 18 tracks, 5 buses and a master bus. I use a Roland Octa-Capture for my interface. One thing I noticed is the Octa-Capture was running at 48000Khz instead of 44100Khz due to the fact that I use an Axe-FxII to do all the guitars and bass, and it runs at 48000Khz. So I was wondering if that could be an issue, I never even knew the Roland could run at that to be honest, unless its picking up on what my settings are in Sonar. At one point, my phantom power kicked off by itself. It was an extremely buggy night. I've never had issues with Sonar Plt until that night trying to track vocals. It has never froze or anything, but now when I go back and mix this project, the line that scrolls acrossed the screen as its playing is jerky, like its a lack of memory or something. But that can't be, I've got a beast of a computer, its a gaming system, 8 core, 2.3 GHZ, 16 mg memory, I can't remember what video card is in it, but it never has issues with anything. I do use Waves plug ins, and I think I may be mixing in a 32 bit in there with the VST3's. I will pull that VST2 32 bit and see if it helps, and check for updates on my drivers. I will also try what meh suggested once I'm home and free to mess about. Sorry about the long drawn out post, I get long winded sometimes.

If you are running Sonar 64 bit there is no reason to be using 32 plugins especially Waves.

All of my Waves are 64, the only one I was using was Channel Tools from Sonar because I like it. Honestly I am not sure about the whole 32/64, vst2/vst3 thing. I have seen threads where they said mixing vst2 and vst3 were causing issues. But I have since removed the Channel Tools and I am still having a lot of issues. Im wondering if its the project itself. I have it saved in different spots at different points in the mix process. I'm going to go back and pull and cleaner version of it and see if I still get the same issues. If it works, I will just move my vocal tracks over to it and move on. I think this may have all started when I seen the Cambridge release and opened my Command Center for updates. But again, I will go to the older version and see what happens.

Cheers!

I just ran a video game that requires tons of cpu and video card and it ran smoothly with zero issues. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my windows 8.1, I've had issues with it in the past. But its running like a champ, so its got to be software, or a goofy setting somewhere causing it. After dinner I will run another project to see what happens.

Just a quick update from my perspective. I always set aside the "master" copy of a recording, and practice my mixes on copies. I pulled out the master mix, copy and pasted over the vocals, my mistake, I should have had him record onto the master copy but I didn't. Anyway, once I got the vox in time, I started messing around with it, I got 2 crashes, once with Melondyne, then another with a plug in. Other than that it ran decent. So its got to be a plug in on that other copy. Anyway, I'm feelin better now, maybe I will be able to sleep tonight after all.

I was having some noise issues with Platinum and thought I needed a "better" interface. So I bought the FocusRite Scarlett  6i6. Put my AKAI Pro EIE on CraigsList. As soon as I fired up Sonar, I had crashes, lockups...you name it, it was a musician's nightmare. I put up with it for 3 weeks. I finally went back to the AKAI interface and all the problems disappeared, even the noise I was having with the AKAI.

So...if you know someone who has an interface you can borrow, see if that does anything. If not, I have a red FocusRite I'll sell you real cheap. You may have better luck than I did with it.

I wonder what happened with the original poster?

I'm back, now I can't do anything in Sonar Platinum except listen to the song and some light editing. As soon as I record and hit stop, it crashes, if I try to delete something out of my projects file, it crashes. Been communicating with support, they're thinking it's V-Vocal causing the issues. So I safe loaded my project, and said no to anything Cronus or V-Vocal, and opened a track, hit record, and again, as soon as I hit the space bar to stop recording, crash. No report generated, nothing. I also went into my BIOS and set up the recommended settings, so now my system is running full bore 100% of the time, but still having the same issues. I got a bad feeling I'm going to have to re-install. I hate doing that because I never know if I've saved everything correctly or not, and where it will be when I'm done.

Sorry to say wgmj, but you are not the Original Poster. I think your first entry was at post #27 when you hijacked this thread.

I'm almost 50 years old, and I have no idea what hijacking a thread is? But if I'm correct, and your referring to me posting on this subject, I did it in support of the individual who started this conversation. If I remember correctly, am I'm not saying I am, but if I do I remember people saying things like, "how can we all have the same exact product and ours is fine and yours is crashing all the time". So my post was in support of the issue. I never meant to "hijack" anything, and I apologize if I've done something wrong as far as "Forum Laws" go. Like I said, I'm old, I rarely ask for help in this manner. But in the future I will start my own,...what did you call it..thread? Or better yet, maybe I'll just use the phone, something I'm used to. Again, sorry for whatever I've done to offend you, never meant any offense. Peace \,,/

As you weren't quoting any particular post I took your opening words in post 38 to indicate you were answering the poster from post 37, just before yours. Hence I drew the conclusion you thought you were the OP or original poster. Never mind , it just is hard keeping track of folks that don't quote the post to which they're replying.
