Getting static sounds during playback after replacing my old 128gb SSD with a 500gb SSD. Check buffering, that didn't make a difference. Thoughts
 
ps Sonar is on my SSD and audio files on my moving HD. Been doing this for years with out problems
 

Only thing I can think of is if you are using WDM or Windows drivers, re-run the "Wave Profiler".

When I've replaced sys drives, I've ended up having to reauth some plugs.  IKM comes to mind, but there may be others.  Maybe the static you're hearing is from a plug that thinks it is a demo

Best way to test is load a blank project and dump a wave file on a track. Play that. 
But for sure you will have to go through all your settings as well as optimizing your OS and Run Latency Monitor etc. 

Wouldn't hurt to try different data and power connectors, then cables, on the new drive.
 
I recently had a power connector (from my power supply) burn out 3 HDs in quick succession. Literally fried the circuit boards.  I didn't realize what was going on, and couldn't understand why the drives weren't being recognized. Then, when connecting the 3rd drive, I saw a wisp of smoke and smelled it burning. 
 
Didn't lose any critical data, but losing three 4TB drives wasn't cheap (not to mention the cost to replace them).

Do you have internal audio interface? The only effect I can visualize is EMI/RFI from the drive or the data cable coupling to an audio device. Unless the SSD is defective, the type of storage should have no effect on audio quality, especially not if your data files aren't on it. A deep test on the drive will tell you if it's taking errors, which it probably isn't.
 
The solution to in-the-box interference would be physically moving components: re-routing the data cable and/or moving the SSD to another bay. If you have an external audio interface, try re-routing the USB/Firewire cable or moving to another port.

Stinkin USB cable from my Focusrite 18i20 was plugged into a USB 3.0 next to the HDMI cable running to my monitor. When I plugged it into a USB 2.0 input away from the HDMI cable the problem was solved.
