  • One thing I don't like about the console view (p.3)

The biggest thing I would like to see in the CV is is automatic resizing of the frames. If you drag out the overall size of the CV when not docked or docked it would be nice if the space would be used properly. Console would resize itself to fit the available space.

Another thing would be a completely resizable CV. It would grow or shrink by dragging on a corner. Just as the window does.

fully color-customizable console strips

Similar to PT?  If so then +1 from me!

johny baby, good minds think a like.
i put in a feature request for this with photoshop drawings and everything.
because idealy like you were just saying,if the CV could be resolution sensitivity,
you could fit more tracks in a larger space.

the main reason for me was,i use a 37 inch monitor,my console view tracks are 2 inchs wide by 5 inches high...lol
id love to be able to shrink them down to 1x4's even and fit 7 or 8 more in there.

A couple of my thoughts on this subject:

1. Sonar should stop treating tracks and busses separately. Cakewalk should improve the routing (a la Reaper) so that tracks can output to other tracks, be sent to other tracks, etc. effective merging tracks and busses. This is great for everything from drum mixing (have your kick direct buss right next to your kick tracks), weird routing fx fun, realtime recording of VSTi or track output in a single pass, etc. It also negates the need for them to be separated in the console.

2. Sonar needs a dynamically resizable console view (a la Reaper). There's zero point in having a dockable console if the channel faders are too tall to be fully exposed. The console needs to adjust dynamically to the window size (yes, this will mean using vectors rather than bitmaps).

3. The width of stips in the console view needs to decrease. Wide strips should be no wider than they were in the 8.5 console. As of now, they're just too wide.

4. The effects bins need to be larger. I need to be able to see more than 3 effects at a given time. Let's also add a smaller font to the names too to squeeze some extra characters there.

5. I need to be able to see multiple sends at once. After Volume, Pan, and Effects, Sends are the next most used console feature. I need to be able to see more than one at a time. Real estate in the Sonar console view should be prioritized on the most commonly used features.

6. We should get a full screen Console mode a la Cubase 7. When I'm mixing, having much larger effect bins and even more exposed sends along with longer channel strips would be fantastic. A full screen mode for the Console would be a terrific addition. Even when the Console view is maximized and Sonar is in Full Screen mode, the Windows menu bar appears. Plus, I'm still limited to 3 visible effects and 1 visible send.

I use Bub's approach also. One screenset for channels and one screenset buses only.
The change that I would like to see ,being a touchscreen user, is being able to float track view to another screen.
I have one touch and one non touch monitor. I like to display the track view on one monitor and the console view on the other. It would be nice to set up screensets that swap the views between the monitors .

I wish the tracks and buses weren't separated into different frames. I would much prefer them all to be side by side in the same frame, or at least have the option to choose. Anyone agree? I hate that "curtain" divider.

I could see the advantage to having it both ways. At times I like the divider. At times I wish I could place a bus right next to a section of tracks. I think the best thing is to have the option to do either one.

When I am sub grouping I like the divider. I like placing the subgroups next to the master.

When I am using a bus for a send effect I wish I could place it next to the group of tracks that will be using the effect. kind of like Pro Tools.

If I had to pick just one I would say leave the divider where it is. of course these are just work flow opinions. I think having the option to do both would speed things up for me.

I like Bub's screenset idea as well.

I never realized that you had to select the busses as well when inserting measures. That's going to make life much easier in the future.

Personally, I like it the way it is. It's more like real consoles but I see the advantages of just putting the busses and tracks where ever. There have been a few times I wished I could have.
