A couple of my thoughts on this subject:
1. Sonar should stop treating tracks and busses separately. Cakewalk should improve the routing (a la Reaper) so that tracks can output to other tracks, be sent to other tracks, etc. effective merging tracks and busses. This is great for everything from drum mixing (have your kick direct buss right next to your kick tracks), weird routing fx fun, realtime recording of VSTi or track output in a single pass, etc. It also negates the need for them to be separated in the console.
2. Sonar needs a dynamically resizable console view (a la Reaper). There's
zero point in having a dockable console if the channel faders are too tall to be fully exposed. The console needs to adjust dynamically to the window size (yes, this will mean using vectors rather than bitmaps).
3. The width of stips in the console view needs to decrease. Wide strips should be no wider than they were in the 8.5 console. As of now, they're just too wide.
4. The effects bins need to be larger. I need to be able to see more than 3 effects at a given time. Let's also add a smaller font to the names too to squeeze some extra characters there.
5. I need to be able to see multiple sends at once. After Volume, Pan, and Effects, Sends are the next most used console feature. I need to be able to see more than one at a time. Real estate in the Sonar console view should be prioritized on the most commonly used features.
6. We should get a full screen Console mode a la Cubase 7. When I'm mixing, having much larger effect bins and even more exposed sends along with longer channel strips would be fantastic. A full screen mode for the Console would be a terrific addition. Even when the Console view is maximized and Sonar is in Full Screen mode, the Windows menu bar appears. Plus, I'm still limited to 3 visible effects and 1 visible send.
