I've watched enough videos. Decided to try and apply some of the book knowledge.  This is just a short loop of the bass and drum track that I've been wanting to lay down some guitar parts onto.  Input welcome and wanted. 

I took a pattern out of my DR-880. I recorded as audio not midi.
Two tracks, 1 bass 1 drum.  I didn't want to deal with mapping a drum set on top of the MIDI, so I took the raw sound directly from the DR-880 for both drums and bass.
Used only the FX in the pro channel, no other FX

BassAndDrums-B.wav is the raw deal out of the 880. No mixing FX

BASS
The gaols were to try and get more punch out of the compressor, get rid of the strange bizzar ringing frequencies in the midrange, two different spots, and to bring out a bit more grit with the tube.
Compressor : PC76-U
* input : 5
* Attack : 7
* Release : 8
* Output : 9
* Wet 100%
EQ : Bumped the low end, dropped the mid, tapered the high back to flat from the midrange drop
Tube :
* Input 7
* Drive 8
* Output 6.5
Console : S-Type




DRUMS
The goal was bring out a bit more punch on the drums, bring up the low end and get a bit more sizzle out of the snares, high hat and cymbals.  Didn't use the tube on this one.
Compressor : PC76-U
* Input : 8
* Attack : 9
* Release : 7
* Output : 8
EQ : Bumped the low end, dropped the mid tapered the high just below flat
Tube : Used the tube to try and get a little grit out of the bass
Console : S-Type


Only thing I used on the master was an N-Type console emulator.  I was going to use compression on it, but I just went back, looked at my project and realized I forgot to apply it. The goal there was to try and tie the two tracks together. Something I learned from one of the mixing tutorials I seen up on Groove3

Yes that link looks safer.
I listened to h to examples, and can hear the difference in the mix.
B sounds fuller, but i noticed some clicks in the audio, possibly where they peaked or where a clip joins?
Anyways, stretch that out and put in the progression parts, (other chords etc) and it will shape up into a tune.

So are you saying you liked B better? B is the raw signal. A is the one I worked on.   Hmmmm...
Yes I know B had crackels in it. Not sure why that is.
Rigth now I don't much to add to it other than a single guitar part. My intentions is to keep this same rhythm and just copy it over and over while I recored my guitars.
