• SONAR
  • X1\X2 TH2\POD Farm Latency (p.2)

The one problem I was hoping I would have less of with X2 is latency with either POD Farm or with TH2 (I bought the full version and love it so far). Note that I have the same delay with either one. Notes are like a whole step behind or like a delay. If I go in and change audio settings they are fine until I start the song playing and then the delay kicks in.

Latency comes from two sources:
  • Your audio interface's ASIO buffer size
  • Latent plugins (convolution, "mastering", and linear-phase plugins are typically latent)
Note that do to Automatic Plugin Delay Compensation, if you insert a latent plugin anywhere in the project (doesn't have to be on the Guitar track), *all* other audio will be delayed to maintain sync.

Good rule of thumb is to avoid latent plugins while tracking.
There's also a global PDC bypass on the Control Bar (can be used to bypass PDC while tracking).

Gee you've had your browser open an awful long time.

Touche'... (didn't pay attention to the date and for whatever reason didn't initially see the responses)

Hey... shouldn't you be busy complaining about Sonar?
Just kidding...

Another thing to remember is, the LP-64 EQ is a mastering EQ.

It's not designed to be used during the tracking stage.

I don't think any of the VST's in that 64 series were meant to be used during tracking.

I think either something changed with this particular VST, or something changed with PDC in general in the X2 'A-patch'. I noticed that I can't use any of the read ahead VST's at a lower buffer setting since installing the A-patch. It's not a big deal because I don't use them for tracking and I don't mind raising my sound card buffers, but I did notice that I could no longer have my sound card set to 128 when the LP-64 EQ was in a project, I have to raise it to at least 512 ... sometimes more depending on the size of the project, otherwise I get pops/clicks/dropouts that I didn't get prior to installing the A-patch. No big deal ... just an observation.

Yeah, well, we all need a break from our daily routine once in a while.
