Hi, I am running Win7/64 and I have installed a new soundcard (Audiophile 192) because of latency problems with my old Soundblaster. I have also installed the free demo of Sonar Producer. In Cakewalk Pro 9, all my *.wrk files play fine with their original instrument allocation. Input from the keyboard, however, still suffers from unacceptable latency. In Sonar Producer, I have no latency issues with the keyboard and I have been able to create MIDI tracks using the instruments available in Sonar. When I load a *.wrk file, I can see the meters moving but I get no sound at all. My questions are - why was the latency issue under Cakewalk 9 not cured by the new and powerful sound card? - is it possible to gain access to Cakewalk's instruments in Sonar? Thank you very much for your help - I'll probably need more than the 30 days trial period to crack that myself :) Fritz

Hi Fritz,

Not sure why PA9 isn't working better with your new interface. Did you set the Driver Mode to ASIO or WDM? You can't use MME because driver protocol doesn't support low latency.

As for loading WRK files in SONAR Producer... You may need to reassign the track outputs to the new interface.

Hi Scott, - yes, the hardware setting on the card are for ASIO/WDM - there is the problem: Cakewalk allows me to specify Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as the MIDI output, but Sonar only allows the soundcard as MIDI output, re-defining instruments from Sonar's onboard supply fails. The original instruments are not contained in the Sonar portfolio even if I could re-assign. Fritz PS: how do you manage to have paragraphs and indents in your message?

Ah ha... with SONAR you need to use soft synths, unless you have external MIDI instruments connected to your PC.

In SONAR, choose Insert > Soft Synth. From there you can insert a soft synth into a project and then assign track outputs to that.

Editing to add indents and other formatting for seems to work for posts created using Chrome, and may also work using IE.  Older versions of Firefox seem to work, but not the newer ones.

Fanton - greetings. A while back I upgraded from Cakewalk ProAudio 9 to Sonar Producer, actually it was version 8 at the time. It took a while to get acclimated, but it's been a joy ride ever since.

  Thank you all very much for your comments and advice. Actually, I have been able to migrate my *.wrk collection into Sonar ... after many hours of frustration and fruitless watching of demos and reading manuals ... until I stumbled across the possibility to choose Microsoft Midi as soft synth and gaining access to the "classic" 128 Midi sounds which I found missing in the Sonar Demo. I am very close to purchasing Sonar Studio which appears a good compromise between features I don't need and money I am willing to spend. I am also looking for good quality instruments - BUT - all I appear to be able to find are small but expensive bundles focusing on a category of synthesizers, pianos or full orchestras. Is there a high quality version of the old soundfonts or Microsoft's version of the 128 classic instruments (from concert piano via banjo to gunshot?). Or does the licensed version of Sonar contain those instruments as opposed to the demo? Many question, many thanks in advance Fritz
