more benchmarking with sonar x2 and pure data... pure geek-o-rama
15 instances of kontakt on 15 separate midi channels with 1-2 instruments each, and an instance of breverb on each synth output. 
disclaimer - using realtek onboard audio so performance might not be the BEST...

after diggin through the event inspector i did see a fair amount of note drift later in some of the tracks - lining up more than 100 or so ticks off beat in either direction.  not sure what this was due to.... my guess was recording audio in another application at a different sample rate than sonar was running at, so i'll take a look at that.  the pure data program I am using can be downloaded here:  https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=5DBE71A770FCC390!312 it's the file midi madness.pd
