I don't expect to see X2b at all at this point in the release cycle.  I base this on past experience.  However, there might be a chance of maybe a X2 Expanded based on what they did with X1.  That would be a paid release for a small amount that might give some new toys and a few tweaks.

Better yet, more upgrades for the Pro Channel plugins that allow for VST use at $20 a pop.

The longer they wait for (EDIT) X2b, the better. I hate to say that, but to Cakewalk: DON'T RUSH! Do it right. We're not cramming for a test. Let's fix bugs and fix things that people are griping about. In fact, why not offer up some surveys?

Not to become a sales guy, but my company provides its customers with the ability to use e-mail marketing to provide surveys with feedback to existing email lists. However, I will stress, that it's truly ethical. We disable accounts that violate good email marketing policies. What we provide in surveys, is something I would love Cakewalk to use. However, since this board is NOT to be used as a sales tool, I will not disclose our company name here and let Cakewalk contact me if they're interested in looking at this.

Considering all the stuff that didn't get fixed and the new things they broke with the "a" patch they'd better be working on something. If we gotta wait for more than a couple more months I'll be looking at Cubase instead of upgrading to X3 next go around. I really don't want to do that but by that time I'm definitely gonna need something I can count on because I intend to be making some money off this stuff by then. If they get it up to X1d stability standards I can live with that.

Expanded was a marketing mistake IMHO. Cakes QA dept I'm sure would have loved spending the extra time testing yet another build of the software distracting them from documenting bugs. I sure hope they don't do that again.

My guess based on prior releases is mid-February, maybe March.

That would be reasonable.

I agree with you, Beepster, that I don't want to wait too long, but I don't want them releasing X2b having only addressed some specific bugs, rather than going back in and REALLY addressing the most gripes here. I'm with you that things in X2a needs help, but I don't want Cakewalk to simply "toss" us a pacifier.

Yes, Expanded was a mistake IMO as well. It really didn't have much to offer anyone beyond what Producer already included, save some added bonuses. Adobe PS Extended has a valid reason for existing. There's liability controls placed in there for doctors, lawyers, and other Professional Services that have to rely on photography and measurements for criminal law and medical research. That's one of the markets for for PS Extended. Sonar Expanded really didn't seem to have this or anything that I would deem more Enterprise. I never got Expanded.
