Hi all, thanks for the info.
The problem was, I didn't have the DR-880 drivers installed.  Recently formatted my hard drive and simply didn't re-install after the OS install.

So, onto another question then.  I'm getting my MIDI input now, I can see the MIDI data in the MIDI track after recording.
Can I record a MIDI session (as I just did) and then apply my Ez Drummer software onto that? I've been poking around but not seeing anything that looks obvious on how to do it.

Yes, if you capture the Midi notes on a Midi track, whether by playing through a keyboard or capturing a pattern or series of hits from the DR-880, you can then play back those Midi notes through another external sound module, or through any internal VST software. One thing you might want to try is to insert a soft synth, like the TTS-1 mentioned above. Then you can either copy your Midi notes to that track or observe the settings on the TTS-1 track and set up your track with the Midi notes to have the same settings (either way works). Just to test it out. Not saying you would want to use the TTS-1 (even though it has a good standard drum sound), but at least you'd get familiar with the method before moving to the EZ Drummer.

I would not use the TTS-1 for anything if I had alternatives and there are many.

You have EZ drummer use that. Simply goto the MIDI track where you have the MIDI data from your DR 880 and set  the output to the input of EZ Drummer.

Its that simple.

BTW The only reason to use TTS-1 is if you load a SMF and want to hear it and you don't have a Sound Canvas. Its quick and simple but don't judge the sound you get as being what MIDI can do.

Hmmm not that simple, tried it, not working.  So, I'm doing as was suggested and going through the documentation on soft synth. Greatly appreciate the help everyone.

You have a MIDI track with MIDI data in it right? You have loaded EZ Drummer via the synth rack via the Browser right? You have loaded a drum set into EZ Drummer right?

The MIDI track via the track inspector will have at its bottom an output widget.  It should list EZ Drummer as an input if you click on it. Select that and hit play. You should hear the drums from EZ Drummer.

Hi John, yes, that is what I had. At least it would appear so.  At any rate, I deleted all tracks, setup ez drums, told it to make a new track for each midi input. That gave me a bunch of new tracks, I then created a new midi track and recorded. That seemed to work.    However, I still need to figure out how  to apply ez drums to an existing midi data.

But, for now I'm good... Baby steps.  :)

Also...make sure you have the esttings for MIDI correct on your DR...thre are 3 options that effect how it performs...check it out in the manual, as it describes the differences in the options pretty well..

Hi Frosty
I did go back and read up more in my manual.  Eventually I got two tracks of midi.  Not the full individual tracks like I was hoping. Also, I noticed that when I applied the Ez Drummer kit on top of the midi, it didn't match up well.  I was getting extra notes that did not exist in the original 880's kit and patch.

I can tell I have a lot of learning to do in the MIDI world. There are a couple of 880 kit that I really like and would like to put some of the kits from Ez Drummer on top of.
