Ive just purchased a touchscreen laptop and find it incredibly intuitive using touchscreen to navigate the screen. Its great being able to zoom in, and move along the arrangement, also using faders and so fourth with touch, however im really confused when it comes to actually selecting clips, to move on the screen. I keep pressing the screen area where a clip is, hoping it will select it, then i can move it, like on something like the ipad music apps available, but this doesnt work. Does anyone have any ideas - There seems no clear documentation of how the touch works properly, apart from the gesture info Best wishes Steve

Hi Yertari,

The idea behind our touch implementation in X2 was to enhance the experience by supplementing the use of the mouse with touch gestures.  Editing will be a bit complex...  There's move, slip-edit, fades, snap-to-grid.  We have some ideas for the future.  But we want to make sure we get it right.  For now, we felt that the mixing, navigation, Matrix, etc. features are a great foundation that's perfectly useful in combination with mouse-input.  We expect to expand the functionality over time.

Navigation is the priority.  Then the matrix.  Get that working for live work.  Cool, Bill.  Now mush!  Make me buy a touchscreen.  I dare you.

Thankyou for clarifying.  Definatally worth the use of a touch screen, with what I now get with sonar for music making.  The ability to pinch and zoom.. that is enough to warrant a touch screen, and also fader movements.

Being able to select a clip is great, but not critical at this point, but would be great for the future

I think the GUI went an entirely wrong direction for touch features to be good. For example, dump the "cool" graphics in favor of increasing the fullfilling vibe of touch-features, don't try to simply marry the two. I think that would be a mistake. Put in different themes, even and make graphics bigger or at least easy to zoom in on. Faders and knobs, etc are simply too small.

Thanks!

I agree. Some buttons are even too small to see, let alone use your fingers to point at. The other day I had to put on two pairs of reading glasses to see what was written on an EQ's button, and I have a 30" screen.

Personally, I think its a step in the right direction, and the touch implementation was the main reason I moved over to x2 for my album project.. Like everything, things can be better, etc etc etc etc, but what they have is excellent

Well done

Step, yes. But not ready yet. I'm sure feedback is welcomed at this point.

I think it was smart for CW to be cautious at the beginning. The last thing they needed to do was pour a ton of resources into touch right off the bat only to find out there's not enough interest and the market is too small. I'm definitely interested, but prices are too steep for me right now and performance will probably get better too. There are a lot of obvious things that can be done to improve it, and hopefully there will be a big enough user base to keep development rolling.

There is always room for improvement but I'm truly enjoying the touch screen.
It is by far the best surface controller that I've ever used.
