  • How Do I Insert a Patch Change for a VST Synth?

Hello Friends!

I'm aware of the insert patch change function but I believe this is only for external synths.  How do I insert a patch (or program) change for an internal VST synth?  This seems like something I should know after all of this time but I'm stumped!

Select the track you want to set the preset change for.

Go to Insert>Bank/Patch Change.  This will open a dialog box for you to enter the bank and/or patch change information.

Get the now marker set too - I believe the event gets inserted at the current Now Time (I think - been a long time since I changed presets with events.  I just set up a new instance of synth - one of the perks of 32GB of memory).

When I tried this I didn't see any bank or patch options? I don't think any of my VST synths have banks or patches set up? Am I supposed to create the banks and patches?

Yeah, those do not have the numbers as hardware synths. If you can set it to record knobs movement from soft synth to a track, then may be change patch while it records and see if it has the number. I do not think the soft synths now days use MIDI as it used to. It is about folders and sample location. Good question I wondering as well. I also wish Z3ta had multiple midi channels.... I am with Bob. I add another instance.

Hey Bob. Wanted to send you update on the studio build, but so busy. How are you?

Vlada, I was just thinking about you this morning.  I REALLY want to know how it is all working for you - so please shoot me an email or PM with an update, when you get a chance.

I am hoping that your lack of available time is due to being able to finally get recording done without all of the crashes and such that plagued you for so long on your old computer.

What he said. Some respond to patch changes, some don't.

However, like Bob, I would always insert a new instance. Having each different sound on a new track makes things so much clearer and easy to manage. (IMHO of course).
