I can't use the Cubase demo without a dongle USB-eLicenser.

I can't use the Cubase forum without owning a registered copy of Cubase.

I'm kinda stuck.

just loaded them up.. you think I'm a magician ? the audio is needed.. I thought they were just using midi, due to the file size

whoever gave you the files should either do the export *OR* just give you the streams of audio.

that bit isn't rocket science regardless of DAW

in cubase , it's file > export > omf and tick all the channels

Sorry for wasting your time Fog. I guess I thought you could just convert the project file with the relative paths for the wave files assumed to be the same, but I understand that this doesn't work. I think it's just time to start over. I inspected the wavs themselves and they are extremely hard limited so they look clipped. I don't know if it was after the fact processing or what. But bottom line, I don't think I can help her with these projects other than helping her re-do her projects.

Thank you very much for taking the time tho. I really really appreciate it.

I've been told a few times here that OMF exports ain't all they're cracked up to be and it's better to just export all the tracks as .wav's then import those into a project. This kind of intimidated me but I watched a groov3 vid where the guy does it by just dragging the files from Windows Explorer and dropping them in the track view.

Can you get your friend to turn down the tracks in her project so they aren't clipping and then use an Export Tracks style export?

You may already know this but if she does it right all you have to do is set your project tempo/samplerate/bitdepth to the original project, turn on Snap and set it to measures, navigate to the folder containing the track wav's in Win Explorer, select all the files using Shift + Click and then drag them to the first measure of your project.

If you already knew that my apologies but I thought it was cool. Cheers.

thanks beep. I have the sixteen bit waves. they punched in a lot, so timing of clips is tricky. t recordings are pretty  flawed. I was interested to demo cubase, but just too hard. given the required dongle.

Hmm... that is a sticky one. Can't get them to properly export all the tracks so even the punch ins span the length of the project? I'm assuming you mean you just have the original audio folder. I think there is an option in the Import dialoge that will follow original time stamps but that's out of my league... for now. Cheers.

Yes Cubase is guarded territory, I could not even post on the Wave Lab 7 forum until I upgraded, only the "legacy version" forum. It took 3 months to get an answer too! Talk about dead end forums. If you don't own and register the software , you cannot post,, only read.
Just think of how many members we would loose here if it was that way, I don't own X series but enjoy helping out with none software issues here.

I got Cubase LE 5 with my Tascam interface, I wanted to try the full version but like you say you have to spend $32 and get the USB dongle. LE and wave Lab Elements use the soft licence. But then you cannot install on 2 computers, for that you still need the dongle.

I agree that the best way to share files is straight wave files or if MIDI a MIDI file as well.
I have dumped back and forth between Sonar and Cubase just messing around and it always works fine. Sonars tracks will even land on the timeline in the correct place in Cubase.

It is nice if you can have both programs open side by side, drag and drop.
