Oh yes - make sure all of your new install is done by running "As Administrator"

Do you use the Dim Pro synth? If so, what version?

If you're on 1.2 then there's an update to 1.5. Removing 1.2 MIGHT screw up any projects referencing it.
If you want there's a detailed instruction somewhere for completely removing DP

If you did you the Lexicon Pantheon and still want to use it. Remember to export your presets (if you created any) before deleting SONAR 8.

Good calls, all.

You can certainly leave prior versions of Sonar in place, unless you are out of room on your hard drive.  Each version installs to its own set of folders, although I am not 100% sure on the AUD.INI file (there may be just one of those, can't remember, but anyways prior versions being on your system will be fine).

Doing an uninstall and re-install are not risky - just make sure you are careful when deleting the registry keys (do not delete the wrong ones, and don't run your fingers across the keyboard in a fit of sneezing).

It is important to run the install as Administrator - and I mean specifically right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator - even if you are already an administrator.

I checked on my system and AUD.INI is in the roaming data for my user, under an X2 folder, so it would appear that there is a separate one for each version of Sonar.

I do NOT know if this file would be shared by having both 32 and 64 bit versions of a given release both present on a computer, but at least it looks like removing the X2 one would not impact any prior releases at all.

yeah the plugins that were already in place from previous versions that would get wacked are one of those pain points to consider.
Pantheon is widely used in my projects too.

@Jonsey - yes I use Dim Pro. At 1.5 currently. I shouldn't need to do anything with that after doing the un-install re-install though since it is a
separate product, right?

Running as administrator, good point.

As I think through this, I am considering the option of just going back to X1
since it is still on my machine.
Wait it out until a fix comes out for X2 that addresses some of the issues.
I can live without many of the X2 features, especially lanes.....
Love the idea, not so much with the reality of using them.

So thanks again for all the input on this.
Lots of effort involved so not a decision to be taken lightly.

Correct - don't uninstall your exiting version and don't attempt to install it again
