I appreciate all the help guys.  you will be hearing from me a lot now that I have both this and fl studio running. I have a ? though.  when I import an mp3 file to sonar, it sounds super distorted.  im off work now and have this all to myself for the weekend so im going to be reading the booklet and any videos I can find.  should I have a pre-amp with my mic so the recording sounds good?

Distorted is bad - (unless you are intending its presence).

Do songs play normally through Windows Media Player?

I've never imported an mp3 but could this possibly be a conversion problem? I know if you import a wav and don't check off a box that converts the wav to the projects audio settings (samplerate/bitrate) it will cause all sorts of nastiness. Not sure if this applies to mp3s.

that makes sense, I had to convert it to mp3 to upload onto reverbnation.  ill try it with wav and see if that fixes it. thank you :)

Right, here we go - and remember I said to put your specs in your signature?

Because it all starts now.

What are you using for a soundcard? Depending on the answer to this then an external pre-amp might or might not be required.

Is the actual file extension mp3? If not yes definitely convert it to something that Sonar can handle. A regular mp3 should import fine (I think) but if that program you mentioned is in some different format that's probably the cause of the problem. Cheers.
