Hey everyone,

This is "The Gradations of Purgatory." It won Best Nevada Short Film at the Pollygrind Film Festival, and was directed by the same director who did my "If Only Tonight I Could Sleep" Music Video that I posted here a few weeks back. It's a really interesting and unique film about a man who is given choices in purgatory that he doesn't realize will decide his fate in his next life. I'm really proud of the score I composed on this one. It's the 3rd of four short films I've scored for these filmmakers, and they're getting ready to go into post production on their first feature, which I'll be scoring too.

Enjoy. Would love to hear how you liked the film and its score.

I think the score is absolutely perfect for this movie. I like the videography. Since I don't believe in purgatory I can't really give something I'm not accepting of a high mark for the ideas behind the film, but I can enjoy the delivery and the way it was made which I did :) Most excellent job on the music!

It's really well done, David. Subtle, supports the physical/visual action perfectly, and the mix is nice. Was the final mix done in Sonar, or did you just use it to score to picture?

Thanks everyone.

Starise: Yea I don't know necessarily if I believe either haha, but it's certainly an interesting take on the idea. I had a talk with the director after it was all done and he said he kind of drew the original idea from multiple ideas he had read about the concept.

kicksville: i just scored to picture, mixed the music alone, and delivered the final wav, then they handled the final full audio mix with sound and everything. and yea, everything on my end is done in Sonar. :-)

That was excellent.  Quite a story.  I'm not a purgatory guy either, but I'm not a real believer in zombies and still love "The Walking Dead".  Willing suspension of disbelief.  It was entertaining and well scored.  the music was perfect for the film.  I like your stuff, buddy.

I found the film totally compelling!!  I was hooked from the opening shot.  And your score was simply perfect.  Beautifully understated, it supported the film wonderfully without ever intruding.  Excellent work all around.

The music set perfectly into the action. It set a nice level of tension for the characters and a sense of foreboding....

Excellent work
