I don't like her voice, but clearly a good singer. I like her songs when covered, so I guess I like her song writing too.
 
I couldn't stand Amy Winehouse's voice, just grates on me, but again, I enjoy her music when covered, so appreciate her talent. Just the voice is not for me. Unfortunately it feels like she's inspired a generation of of singer that mimic her faux jazz tone.

Exactly. Like the completely talent-less Ellie Goulding for one.
 
Amy Winehouse always sounded (maybe unsurprisingly) to me like she was slurring her words.

While listening to Mesh's videos I did some curious research on her and was shocked at all the awards she's already won.  SOMEBODY really likes her!  I personally have no problem listening to her, but also wouldn't put her as must hear music either.

I'm not one of those who dislikes Adele, but I couldn't resist listing some of the female voices I like (actually, this IS a short list, there are others I could add that I just didn't think of now):
 
Alanis Morissette, Annie Lennox, Blondie, Carly Simon, Enya, Fiona Apple, Kate Bush, Kelli Ali, Anne Wilson, Norah Jones, Pat Benetar, Sade, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Susanna Hoffs, Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos and Vanessa Daou.

That's a pretty eclectic group, thanks! There are some singers that I think have exceptional voices that some people just don't like, for whatever reason. I think maybe it's more the songs they choose, but just from a vocal standpoint, there might be something else going on. I could listen to Dusty Springfield or Barbra Streisand pretty much forever (Dusty b/c I think she's the best female pop vocalist ever, hands down; Barbra for her gorgeous purity of tone, among other things) but as much as I enjoy listening to some of Adele's best, I think I would get tired of her voice and songs after a while.
 
I think Celine Dion has a remarkable voice, but I didn't really need to hear anything after her "Unison" album lo, those many years ago.
 
There are some really great male voices out there, but a lot of the ones I like are mocked for being--whatever. It seems like it's not cool these days to actually be able to sing(?) I'm overstating my case, I know...

Julie Fowlis, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Elizabeth Fraser, Kate Rusby, Maire Brennan, Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin-Carpenter amongst others.
 
Julie Fowlis is my favourite I think. Her voice is spine tingling even though I have no idea what she's singing about
