• SONAR
  • Soft synths hang - have I got settings wrong?

Hi there,

When I attempt to load in a soft synth, for example, Dimension Pro or Kontakt (not Rapture), the synth GUI hangs there and the message "processing tracks" appears in the Transport Module. I can go out and get a bite to eat, come back, and the message is still there. However, if I click out of Sonar after immediately loading the synth - onto the desktop, for example, and click back into Sonar, the synth is fine and I can access everything through the program browser. My interface (Roland Quad Capture) is configured to use the ASIO driver mode on the Playback and Recording tab of the Preferences.

I like your large lizard friend.  When I was a kid, one of the people that worked on the first Godzilla movie lived 2 houses down.

Did you rescan all of your plugins after X2a?

I am assuming also that the stand-alone version of Kontakt or Dim Pro loads quickly, without a lengthy load time?

Your system seems quite beefy enough processor and memory wise, what about your hard drive situation.  How are the OS, application programs and content setup on your system?

Hi Bob,

Godzilla made sense after the quake and tsunami here in Japan in March 2011.

I've tried rescanning all the plugins, and checked for failed ones. All stand-alone versions work fine. A mentioned, when I load in Rapture it works just fine, i.e. quick access to the browser.

I've got an SSD for the OS and programs with plenty of space left, 2 1TB and a 500 GB drives, all Seagate SATA 3s. All the content is loaded on one of the 1TB drives.

Can't figure this one out. I've asked Cakewalk Tech as well, but the only thing that's been suggested so far is the interface driver settings, which are fine.

Anything in the Windows Event logs?

Are you loading it into the synth rack by clicking on the + sign?  Are you dragging from the browser?

And forgive me for asking - you are running 64-bit Sonar?

This is such a weirdly unique kind of glitch.

Strange. Everything seems to be loading in fine now. And I did nothing in particular, other than post a few messages on the forum. To answer your questions, Bob, I did try using the + sign and dragging from the browser. And I'm running 64-bit Sonar.

The only other thing that has been weird recently is the behavior of my Faderport. Whenever I tried to open Sonar the slider arm just up and down randomly - the program wouldn't open at all. Driver issue, I guess. So I removed it as a control surface and then re-added it. It works fine now. Didn't have this problem on another machine I use, also 64-bit.

Good call on the Windows Event logs, scook - I will investigate further. I'm a little uneasy about things suddenly working fine, but maybe I shouldn't tempt fate.

And that's how all good Godzilla movies end.

Mankind left to contemplate the consequences of his actions, Godzilla quelled, but likely to return in a never-ending set of sequels.
