  • Access Virus Ti2 in SonarX2A PE +usb issues and options

So, I finally got everything in my laptop and installed Virus Control for my new Ti2. It shows up but I cannot enable the drivers on the X2 Preferences page. I assume this is because you can only one usb I/O at a time. If this is so, will not turning on my Tascam US1641, while I use the usb path for the Ti2 suffice?  Perhaps there is something else to do first?
I have 3 -usb2 ports and 1-usb3 (which I have my external library drive on). They are US1641, usb mouse and lastly the Ti2. I am working on one track at a time (bass parts, synths, vocals, guitar, etc, ie not with bands). I also recently got my Fender Super Champ X2 and Mustang Floor, both of which also have usb options. I understand that Hubs are not a good idea and since I am working on one thing or another, I am really interested in how I can shift gears in the usb sense.
Any other advice for a noob RE the Virus. Please jump in.....
Thanks Michael

I am a bit confused.

You are attempting to use the Virus Control component within Sonar?  I presume that is for controlling the knobs and whatnots.

I looked at the support site for Access, and there are a total of ZERO articles on their site dealing with using Virus Control with Sonar.

Are you SURE this is supposed to work?

Also, the Ti2 will appear as a choice for midi input devices, with the name 'Virus TI Synth'.  You should be able to add that in preferences.

So, please explain a bit more about precisely you are trying to hook up, so that I can better assist.

Thanks, sorry I am a bit denser than usual today.

Access' Virus install notes do list the preferences set up steps for using Ti2 in Sonar. I also got nervous when I noticed ZERO Sonar stuff!  I cannot check the boxes for using the Ti2 input and output drivers. Is that because my Tascam I/O inputs-outputs ARE already checked. I had not chosen the Ti2 as a midi input device when I tried.
So, yes I am wanting to use the Virus Control inside Sonar, if I can. I know I can always tweak a patch and do the midi in and/or out with it, as I have done with my Kurzweil (I had 2 plus a maxed EMU Proteous 2500). I want to explore the tweaking inside Sonar in the same way, I RE-Amp my guitars-bass, on the spot, so to speak, via the Ti2's usb-Virus Control options.
More?

I have installed Virus Control, and it shows up on the insert synths list. I cannot enable the drivers on the preferences page where the Tascam's inputs and outputs are. The Virus is there (both in and out and Ti2 and Snow which I am not sure why that is like that), but I cannot check the boxes. I had not added it as a midi input device at that point.

If they are ASIO devices, you can only have one enabled at a time.

DuH! Thanks. I was hung up thinking only one usb I/O at a time (which is also true for Sonar? Yes?). I forgot about ASIO.
I am not sure that I want to go (preamps, etc) into the inputs on the Virus, which would-could act as my audio interface via usb. I am completely new to the Virus, well for that matter X2PE and Win7hp 64bit, too. I've owned synths since the late '70s, and always played them into a track with simultaneous midi, to experiment with the midi track with new sounds-programs. I assumed the Virus Control would expand my options, perhaps it still will.
Thanks Michael

I do not believe there is a "one USB device" limit in SONAR.

...and Snow which I am not sure why that is like that),

Hey Michael - long time Sonar/Virus TI2 user here.  There aren't a lot of us here, so another is always a welcome sight.  As for the Snow plugin, the software automatically installs both the Virus and Snow .dll's whenever you run the installer.  If you don't have a Snow and don't plan on adding one, you're fine just deleting the Snow .dll from your vst folder (from both the 32-bit and 64-bit locations).

Thanks cryophonik! Glad to hear it!     Is there a simple to way to have my alternating uses, preset, in terms of ASIO drivers-input? Like the Tascam drivers being enabled, when I'm doing guitar, bass, vocals and then the Virus Control drivers, when I'm doing the Ti2? O   r is it simply a matter of going to the Preferences page and selecting-deselecting?
I am trying to plot using these various usb devices via usb, vs. plugging their outs into my Tascam I/O. This is what I have for now and want to use it optimally, until I get to upgrade my system again, later this year. The laptop will be my travelling workstation. I just bought it, first, while I research what to build for the next desktop, and what interface to get next.

You don't need to switch the audio drivers to use the TI2 in Virus Control mode.  You would only switch the audio driver if you want to use the Virus TI2 as a soundcard for recording or monitoring.  If you are only using it as a plugin via USB, insert the Virus plugin as a synth and it will automatically sync with the hardware.  You'll then be hear the audio through your Tascam, just as you would with any other soft synth, the difference being that the Virus hardware is actually generating the sound and using its own processing power, rather than your CPU.  Hopefully I understand your question correctly.
