I have just started using this compressor lately, not sure why I never really checked it out before.

This thing is brutal! Using it on a parralel compression buss really highlights what this thing can do. I mean this compressor is narley, nasty, and excellent.

This compressor can squeeze the snot out of kicks, snares, toms, and overheads, bringing out longer decays and a rich fullness that is wonderful for tucking underneath non-compressed drums.

I just thought I would share. I am loving SONAR X2a, aside from a couple of minor issues.

i agree, both the PSx64 and the VSx64 have nasty strong compressors in them as well as expanders.
not to meantion the built in EQ and Delay are rich and full of flavor.
what i find interesting mostly is the sustain, that compressors sustain is really powerful

Thumbs up on VS as well. Did a project where I used it in the fx chain on the pro channel and it really gave the vocals more body. I hadn't used it much before, now it's more than likely going to be a go-to plug-in for me.

+1! I've totally forgotten about both strips ever since the Pro Channel came along. Perhaps I need to play with them a bit!

Indeed. I have gotten sustain from other compressors before, but this one in the percussion strip is off the chart. It is a great example of using different compressors for different jobs.

I don't think I would use the percussion strip compressor to shave off small peaks, but if I need to deliver a dominating blow of merciless destruction to extend the rotting decay of kicks and snares, I will now reach for this nasty beast first!

I forgot about them too, but am I glad I messed around with the percussion strip compressor. Even in a dense mix, I can bring out the room decay, or tuck some relentless paralell compression onder some non compressed drums to add that "room" texture.

And I actually used some room mics on this kit, and when I mix a little of that in the "ParComp" buss...damn. It really does get epic. It changes the size of the sound dramatically.

Ha ha ha. I am actualling picturing the kicks splattering snotty blood-clots now. Thanks. A sound like that could probably be used in sound design for the Walking Dead or something.
