Oh and I'm only a third of the way through the manual as of this date so I'm sure as I get into the wackier aspects of the program I'll be finding more issues.

Again... no regrets. Just trying to be honest about my experiences so far. X1 was a lot harder for me to use and I couldn't imagine going back to it. I also don't think it was much more stable than X2 either as far as general usage. Aside from the weird selection issues most of the basic functions seem to be working okay on my system.

Agreed that, if you can deal with the "weirdness" of Lanes, and the obvious bugs, that can be somewhat a step up from Layers. I just question whether there was enough real-world testing of Lanes in X2 before releasing the idea.

The marketing of the product tells me Cakewalk is prioritizing ProChannel and the plug-ins over the DAW itself. That's a shame, because there's a great many features of the DAW that go unnoticed, or that Cakewalk believes are "well-known" or "long-time" features. So, as with any other marketing campaign, when you place priority on a specific shiny new thing, it seems to get more of the testing time. The plug-ins and Console Emulation for X2 are quite nice, but I didn't buy Sonar for the plug-ins. I bought it for the price and work-flow.

Lanes should have been given a higher priority. It's on the right patch, I think, but way behind the market.

Man you hit it dead on with this post Brian.
No way the bugs in lanes could have gone unnoticed during testing.
Had to be considered an 'acceptable level' so as to get the product to market, figuring the bugs could be fixed later.
Well it's been a hotfix and X2a and they are still there/growing.

Beep - like you said above, not complaining about SONAR in its entirety.
I cannot imagine not having it. My music world has grown exponentially since using SONAR.

I guess I'm more about making sure what you deliver is a good reflection on yourself.
If I'm one of the Bakers and am reading all these threads and hearing the frustration, I think I get kind of embarrased.
Maybe that's just me.  dunno.

Oops! I meant to say, "on the right path", not "patch", because we know it's not on the best "patch" yet. heh.

Thanks for the compliment. It is worth emphasizing, and I've commented on this subject before, that I really don't have a lot of time to hunt down bugs for Cakewalk, because I'm focused on recording and mixing. If there's an easy way to make something better, I'm for that, but I got irritated at first because I could simply uncover bugs within the first 5-15 minutes of X2 use. That was easy. I couldn't find any issues with the plug-ins, or ProChannel, though, and I tried hard to break those that it came with.

I'm the same way, that Sonar is pretty easy to use, and I can't imagine going back to an old console with no recalling functions (geez, did I just commit blasphemy?)

I'm not too surprized that these things go un-noticed...

The astounding number of situational variables are overwhelming... So I don't discredit the system really... I'm sure they're not laying around doing nothing so I can only imagine the things that they were faced with creating/fixing all along the way...

But I do agree that Lanes are a very serious main component of the system. The first time I did a lasso-zoom and found the image confusing and not what I selected to view I knew there's something going on...

I have not liked Lanes on any other DAW eto begin with and I was so comfortable with Layers as a welcome alternative. Now faced with a system I don't like (Lanes) and the myriads of problems/bugs involved with using them has taken away from the joy of many other elements that have come with X2 which I do appreciate and enjoy.

I wonder about the decision-making that went into their' design. Not to place blame, but to understand how they could expect a large portion of their' users to work with these?

How I wish they had opted to give both as a fallback as they did with Automation Lanes.... (which I don't typically use at all)...
