Hey, I am used to using Logic Exs24 to insert a very large amount of chopped samples from the arranger in into its editor window. Setting The contiguous zones, setting  polyphony to 1, saving instrument. Now the samples play across the keyboard and cut each other of if need be.

Now I work on Pc. Giving Sonar x2 a try. Can anyone lay out the steps similar to what I was doing/A new way to get the same results with Dimention pro/le or perhaps its a different vst sampler that does this?

I would think this is a noob question, but I can't find any answers posted for it.

I used to build such things with Kontakt - been awhile, but I built up replica recreations of some of the Pink Floyd sounds (I made them from scratch), for the beginning of Time (clocks), and cash registers and coin sounds for Money, so that my band could play these tunes live.  I had different register sounds and coins on different keys, like what you are trying to do - if I understood your post properly.

That worked pretty well - I do not at the moment know if one could do that with Dim Pro - if I get enough coffee into me I will take a look at doing so and will post back later on today.

Yeah, this is one area that I think Sonar is lacking in.  I'm about to do a feature request on it, as a matter of fact.

You can do it, but it's not as easy as you describe it.  First, you must chop your samples up in whatever way you can (manual or use Audiosnap), then use something like Session Drummer 3 to drag/drop your samples into that.  You will only get the number of samples supported by Session Drummer at any one time, and not across the keyboard.

If your really serious about this, you can do like Bob mentions and consider something like Kontakt.  And if you're going to do that, you should probably consider one of the Komplete packages.  Right now's a good time because NI's having a sale on it.

You can, but then you have to get into making your own SFZ files, AFAIK.

Wouldn't DropZone be the right tool for that? It's a sampler.

Dropzone only supports 2 different elements  at a time.  The OP wants to map many across the keyboard.

Create an sfz file with a text editor, sfZed or SFZ_ProgramEditor to work with one of the sfz engine synths in CW or sforzando. Another free solution would be the TX16Wx sampler.

yeah - any decent sample editor should allow you to construct this kind of mapping - I happen to own Kontakt, and it is really pretty solid for me - scook had some good ideas there too.

Right off the top of my head. I would say build a template (i have one called MPC).

First two track are audio tracks so I can drag in the section of music I want to chop. using audiosnap.

Next two track are loaded with session drummer (cause it only has a limited number of slots I use two)

and in the dock is the matrix (to drop samples to also)

and just map your keyboard in the pref menu to match the paino roll
--I came from logic to sonar and I know just waht your tlakign about that how i use to make beats back then  (exs and idrum...). Its just in sonar you have to change your thinking a bit. In logic your trying to mimic an ASR or motif like set-up. No so in sonar think of it more as a toolbox with different tools to chop your samples that all feed into the track view.....(hope that helps...)

There's no way to actualy do it with Sonar.  I have tried.  As others have pointed out, you can chop samples and drag the pieces into session drummer, but that is not even close to what you are used to.  The sfz solutiion is even worse because it would require it be done for every single sample. Kontakt or even geist will give you what you need.  otherwise what eq said is the best you are going to get for now using Sonar tools.
