Is there a difference between the PC4K s-type channel compressor that comes the Producer Expanded and the PC4k s-type that the cakewalk store sells as an add-on? (other than appearance) After all, they both say PC4k s-type.

Not that I am aware of...

Even the appearance should be identical.

Of all the CW PC addons, the PC4K S-Type channel compressor is the weakest. There are a few differences such as setting attack and compression ratio. Aside from that, the ProChannel will allow multiple copies of the addon modules in a channel but only one copy of the the modules that come with SONAR.

I think you can use as many s-type instances as you wish in X2- I know I can.

It does react differently to a normal compressor but then again so does the SSL Duende channel strip compressor which I also own. I believe that one is modelled on a slightly different SSL console (and I suppose same model consoles are slightly different) but the basics are similiar. You can put the threshold to 0 and even though the signal won't reach it if there is ratio above 1:1 compression will take place. And raising the ratio on both the Sonar and SSL simulations actually increases volume where you would expect it to do the opposite- so there is some automatic gain compensation happening or something.

I could never figure out what to do with that one. Need to learn more.

I think you are referring to the PC4K-Buss type that comes with X2 and the PC4K-Channel type that is sold as an add on.

While I think it's fair to say that the PC-4K channel type is probably the compressor I use least it has become my preferred comp for acoustic guitar and certain bass guitar sounds as well.

It's worth having but I'd get the PC2A before that.

I got my with the Production Suite... or maybe that's a different module. The naming conventions confuse me.

It may well be part of the production suite but the PC-4K channel type definitely isn't part of the regular producer, it's an addon.

Do you use it much Beepster? When I first got it I hardly ever used it but I'm definitely growing into it. It's a little harder to set up than the others but worth the effort when you get it right. IMHO of course.

It was not part of the Production Suite but it was thrown in as a promo freebie occasionally. The PC Expander/Gate was part of the Suite along with X1 Expanded and z3ta+2.

Oh yeah. I'm thinking of the Expander/Gate but I think I have the other one as well. Me no brain good today. :-/

I've used the Exp/Gate thing like once and I really didn't know how to set it up. Gotta read up more. I need to visually see most of these things to identify them. The names just get me all discomboobled.
