  • Hey! A new video I think y'all might like :)

I did a cover version of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of this Place," BUT the video consists entirely of screen movie captures of what's going on with Sonar while the song is playing. Like during one of the vocal sections, it shows the pro channel modules used for the vocals, when there are sections with a lot of automation it shows the automation curves, the waveforms for the guitar solo, etc.

I thought as Sonar users, you might find it entertaining. :)  Check it out:

While you're there, you can also find seven other videos...all music done with Sonar, all video done with Vegas.

Cool video! The mix of the song was very well done and the musicianship is fantastic!

I never liked that VX vocal strip. It makes everything sound like it's played through a bucket. Everything sounded dark to me. This may be subjective but it could be brighter. Other than that, Excellent work.

The newest music on there, "Unpleasable" and "Ambient Rose," were both done with X2a and the production/mixing process was trouble-free.

About the negativity...I really hate to sound like a "Gee, it works for me, what's your problem?" type of person, although Sonar really has been very reliable/stable in my studio. I know there are frustrated, savvy people with real problems in addition to some who have only themselves to blame for their difficulties.

I think there is a MUCH larger issue at hand here. The problems people experience with Sonar are not unique to Sonar; just check out other forums. Another example: people talk about how RME's drivers are rock-solid, but go to their forums and you'll see threads like "CLICKS AND POPS WITH ADAT INPUT! HELP!!"

In my view, the problem is simply that the complexity of the technology has outstripped the ability of software developers to cope with it. I think you'll see more people opting for systems like Rain Computing's Rain Pak, which is a computer "ecosystem" geared to specific software, and backed by extensive support.

Anyway, back to the music! Do check out "Unpleasable" too, it seems kind of relevant right now...

Nicely done Mr. Anderton. What did you use for video editing? and what was your screen capture software? I thought you did an excellent Job!

The VX64 doesn't necessarily have to sound that way. I was trying for a gauzy, sort of psychedelic effect but you're not the only person who commented they would have preferred more present vocals. So, check out "Unpleasable" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkrBUM2l2HE) which is more recent and also uses the VX-64 on vocals, but with much less doubling - almost subliminal - and a little bit of a high-frequency bump. Even with a dynamic mic, it sounds pretty present.

I'm still learning all the time, too! Feedback like yours helps. If you get a chance to listen to "Unpleasable," I'd be curious whether you think the vocals address your comments. If so, then the problem isn't with the VX-64 but with how I used it   I think the culprit is probably excessive doubling levels.

Hi Craig,

Can't listen to this right now, on my DAW and I have all Windows Sound services disabled.

There is a Song forum here just so you know ... this isn't really the place to post this.

;)

Now I see in your original post you mention Vegas I was just wondering about the screen capture program. I love Vegas and use it myself. Lately I have been playing with hypercam for screen capture. Just wondering what you use. I really need to learn to read the entire post sorry about that.
