Hi Craig,

There is a Song forum here just so you know ... this isn't really the place to post this.

;)
Yes I know that, but I asked the folks at Cakewalk about posting it here because when it was posted in my Sound, Studio, and Stage forum, a lot of people ended up asking questions about the production, how the guitars were done, etc.  So it was seen more as a springboard for technical discussions than a "here's a new song" type of thing, and Andrew Rossa thought it might make sense to post it here.

We've already cleared up how to make the VX-64 sound less murky

Now I see in your original post you mention Vegas I was just wondering about the screen capture program. I love Vegas and use it myself. Lately I have been playing with hypercam for screen capture. Just wondering what you use. I really need to learn to read the entire post sorry about that.

I too use Hypercam, it's also what I use for my instructional videos. But it did take me awhile to figure out how I could capture audio in Hypercam while generating audio in Sonar. I ended up needing to use two interfaces, with Hypercam using the Windows drivers to receive the audio, Sonar using ASIO to generate it, and connecting the two with physical patch cords.

The newest music on there, "Unpleasable" and "Ambient Rose," were both done with X2a and the production/mixing process was trouble-free.

About the negativity...I really hate to sound like a "Gee, it works for me, what's your problem?" type of person, although Sonar really has been very reliable/stable in my studio. I know there are frustrated, savvy people with real problems in addition to some who have only themselves to blame for their difficulties.

I think there is a MUCH larger issue at hand here. The problems people experience with Sonar are not unique to Sonar; just check out other forums. Another example: people talk about how RME's drivers are rock-solid, but go to their forums and you'll see threads like "CLICKS AND POPS WITH ADAT INPUT! HELP!!"

In my view, the problem is simply that the complexity of the technology has outstripped the ability of software developers to cope with it. I think you'll see more people opting for systems like Rain Computing's Rain Pak, which is a computer "ecosystem" geared to specific software, and backed by extensive support.

Anyway, back to the music! Do check out "Unpleasable" too, it seems kind of relevant right now...

Thanks for stopping by during this Cakewalk Customer Crisis.

I'm glad you showed off some of your work using X2a - at least we know it's working for you, and you of all people probably put it through its paces.

Though, I find it a little troublesome that it appears that X2 is apparently so complex that it may well require a specific hardware platform - this is sort of like the PC gamers giving up and moving to a dedicated system.

I suppose it is the natural progression of things, (although it seems that Sonar is a little more finicky that other programs).  From purely a computer standpoint, it must be easier to write software for a Mac, where there are less variables.

what? "A specific harware platform"?
im using an external soundcard and it doesnt seem to complex for me?

"at least we know it works"?
I personaly need no validation, i know it works,so who is this "WE" ?

im not sure what you mean by "cakewalk crisis" either.
your using Sonar homestudio 6 but yet you still keep dropping these comments about X2 and its crisis.
untill youve actually installed X2 and can comment on facts, than anything you say is hypothetical.
if your going to comment on the things youve read than why are you only commenting on the negetive views.
there are a lot of positive reviews on this forum as well yet you seem to focus only on the later.

im confused.

Unpleasable - Ode to Howard Hughes? (...........)

I love the song. Nope, I still don't like the sound of it. It's all subjective anyway right?

Excellent tunage!

thats fair enough.
i also think it could have been cleaned up a bit.
the slide parts were a little washed out with effects and not enough in the mix.
but i understand mr. andertons direction,he was looking for a phycodelic sound.

as far as the video is concerned. i would have to agree with bub on this.
it should probably be in the song forum.i just dont think it had enough instructional value to be here in the open forum.
it looked more like a promotional video,i couldnt have really learned anything by viewing it.
and i think thats what this part of the forum is for, either issues needing addressing or cakewalk announcments.
i dont think bub was trying to be rude,he was only thinking what i was thinking as well.

with that said,i highly respect you craig and your presentations, there more like seminars.
you have brought a whole new style to instructional video.
something groove 3 or other people havent been able to accomplish.
youve added a little something in to your training videos that keeps the viewer from getting a little bored after an hour or so.

you are a great teacher and a great artist with cutting edge creativity in your tutorials craig.
