Intel core I5 cpu, 650 @ 3.20GHz, 8 GB Ram, 64 Bit. Sonar X1d Producer Expanded.

Since updating to this version, I have system crashes constantly. I cannot access any synths now, I try session drummer 3 and it comes up, but when I hit the play button to preveiw a loop, nothing happens. So I click on the snare or bass drum, visuallly it shoes that I'm hitting the drum, but no sound. I also will drag the loop into the midi track, still no sound. I have reviewed my settings, I have looked at my computer. The computer seems fine, I believe its a software problem. I'm not real experienced with this kind of stuff, and I know I'm probably missing some info in this post, but I need some serious help. I've got 4 completed songs on here that I need to master, and I do not want to lose them.

Thanks

Projects that are saved have nothing to do with the Sonar program. the only way you will lose your projects is if you do not have at least 2 copies of it.

As far as your crash, you mention no crash messages. with every crash you get a message. What do they say?

You also mention you are not hearing any sound when pressing play. You say nothing happens This have Sound Card Driver Issues all over it. With every upgrade, you need to re-Configure your sound card settings. Have you done that? What are they set to? Please list them. No one can help if you do not list these things.

ok, your going to have to be patient with me, I don't know a lot about computers, or the ins and outs of recording. I'm low on the curve. I'm using a Roland OctaCapture, with Event Reference Monitors for my speakers. So my thinking is the soundcard in my computer is being bypassed..?? I did update the Octacapture, but the same issues are present.

As far as messages, I'm not getting any. It will just stop working, sometimes I will still hear the music, and it will look fine on the screen, but you cannot click on anything. I then have to go to Task Manager and force it closed. TM says it is Not Responding. Other times the music just stops, but on the screen its still looks like its playing, again I have to force it closed and restart it. I found some dmp files in my system that I believe are related to this, but I don't have the correct program to open them up. If you woulod like to see those, I will hunt something down on the web to use.

My big concern about losing my songs is if I would have to uninstall and reinstall. I'm not sure how I could save them if it came down to that.

Also I should mention I let my 20 year old son mess around on the program making beats and stuff, I don't know if he did something that I can't find, if he did, he's not giving it up.

Now its doing something else its never done before, when I double click the icon, it starts scanning all of the synths and vst's I have on it. Not real sure what thats about either.

I know I'm probably not giving you what you need, I'm trying to, believe me, Im pulling my hair out here.

One thing you could do if all you have is the one HDD, save the Projects to a DVD for backups if it will load X1 long enough to do a "Save As"

I do it as a CWB file and also CWP file.

Yes audio, guitars, bass, roland TD-20 drums and vocals are all playing back fine, but  when I try to do any type of changes to it while its playing, its almost guaranteed to "stop working". I guess I should stop using the word crash..?? No BSOD, as a matter of fact sometimes visually it looks like its still working but the sound drops out, and I cannot click on anything, not save, not anything. Then I have to use Task Manager to force it down. I never thought about re-scanning after the x1d update. I did do that today, and for some strange reason, now when I open it from my desktop, it scans for them all before it will open up. I was just searching for a setting for that as well. I did this update to x1d about 3 weeks ago, and it seems to be getting more and more unstable. I'm just not sure if this is a computer issue with memory or a software issue.

I never had any problems with this system until I did this update. I mean I had the occasional drop, but it was fairly stable. I do not use a lot of synth or virtual instruments, I have used them in a few things, it would be nice to have them if I needed them for something.

You know I have an external hard drive, but have no idea how to use it...LOL I know thats awful but I thought it would be simple, and apparently I was the one that was simple..LOL  I may get someone over here to show me how to use it. If I save them in those two different formats, will I be able to load them back into the program and still be able to mix and master them if I had to do an uninstall/install, or if I had to upgrade my computer?
