• SONAR
  • Project near completion now crashes SONAR! ***SOLVED***

OK, I'm desperate. At least a year's worth of work in this project, and I was opening it to do one final edit, and I get SONARPDR.EXE will close. What one earth could be happening? I was doing some editing of song last night, and the program was acting weird. The autotrack view, or whatever it's called, where the track expands when you click on it, would not work, so I had to turn that off.

The only thing I've done is try to upgrade my soundcard driver for the Echo Gina 3G. When I installed, it showed up as Layla 3G in SONAR, and so I reinstalled the older driver and it showed up again as Gina 3G.

I've tried opening an older saved version of this same song, and it opens fine, but that was from October, and I have done SOOO much work since then, I can't simply go back to that version.

As a side note, ever since upgrading to X2, clip automation behavior has been strange. If I turn off clip automation, the automation lines still remain. And some time when I have clip automation turned on, the automation lines aren't there.

Anyway, how can I save my song. Please help!!

Thanks.

have you tried opening in "safe" mode? (Shift-Click)? It might be some pluging. Or try opening with X1 instead of X2.

I kept trying Cntrl + click. When I open in safe mode and disable all instances of one particular plugin, the song opens. So, YAY! There's hope. I'll try opening it with one instance of the plugin at a time and see where the culprit is. Thank you for your help!

Could I just suggest that you might also want to think about measures to stop this happening again - such as version saving, saving as a different project after each time you work on it (I just save as the days date for instance) turn on auto back up and as well, do proper back ups onto some different media - I back up regularly to USB Hard disc for instance.

I started doing all of this after I lost a project I could not get back, so I know how painful it can be

Hope you sort the current problem out
Cheers

Very good advice, and I had been doing some of that, just not in a while.
So, what does it mean, if the project won't open regularly with all FX enabled, but it will open in safe mode with all the FX enabled? Thanks.

Another option is to open a new project and drag tracks from the 'corrupt' one into it and then use it as your project. It's a PIA for sure - but might be better than going back to last October

"but it will open in safe mode with all the FX enabled"
That's a candidate for tech support.
Do a "save as" with a new name and folder.
See if the "new" project opens normally.

Actually opening it in Safe Mode, even with all FX enabled, did the trick. Then I just saved it from Safe Mode with a different name, and then opened that in regular mode, and problem solved. Very easy. And I'm very happy that it worked. I've had to do the drag thing before, and it's not fun.

To hear and possibly critique the song you helped me save, go here:
