When I use snap to grid I have to keep it on all the time. If I shut it off, it will reset to a half note as soon as it's turned on. 
It won't remember it's settings when I save a project.

I must be missing some setting because I've not really noticed it before. If it's a known problem please give me the head's up.

I've noticed that the global snap setting often changes all on its own.  I set it at say 1/16 and later it's gone to 1/4 or something else.  Odd.

turn off "smart grid"
that changes the resolution automaticly depending on your zoom level

Yep, Loptec hit the nail on the head. Turn Smart Grid off. Right-click the Snap Resolution button and choose Smart Grid from the menu.
