  • ROBOT VOICE! Can I use synths like Zeta as a vocal effect?

Kind of wondering about using Sonar synths to make vocal tracks sound all wacky and/or use it kind of like a V-Vocal where if I sang a monotone part I could make the track follow a set of MIDI notes.

Also curious if there is a way to use a guitar track to effect vocals like a Talk Box effect (or whatever that old effect was called... think Peter Frampton). Anyone do this type of thing or am I stuck using more traditional effects?

Happy... monday? Holy crap. I thought it was saturday. Weird. Anyway have a good day. Cheers.

Cool. Thanks, scook. How ya been?

I haven't messed with Pentagon yet but I'll try to figure it out. Was hoping Zeta would do this as well but I'll read that and see if the principles apply to other synths.

Also just learning the term Vocoder should help me search for info. I wasn't sure what it meant until now.

Cheers.

Fine, moving again though.
Pentagon is the only one of the Cakewalk synths that has this feature. You can use the Z3TA+ classic effects on an audio track but that won't be the same.
Be careful with Pentagon, some settings will generate very loud bursts of noise when loading the patch. It is a known bug in the synth.

Yep, Pentagons vocoder is is probably what you want but along with vocoder the ring modulator is the classic "Robot" vocal effect. I may be wrong but I don't think any of the bundled synths has a ring modulator. This does and the extremely flexible routing would let  you do something really whackey.

Right on. Thanks for the info. Moving? Yuck. Good luck with that. Horrible pain in the arse all that is. New places are cool though. Like shedding one's skin.

Cheers.

Guitar Rig has a ring modulator and a bunch of the filters you can play with too but you will need to supply the pitch.

Thanks, Glyn. Is Pentagon limited to one sound or can I use any of the patches for this? Kind of want to get creative and not just stick to typical sounds. Cheers.

@scook... Ah, cool. I'll have to read up on ring modulators as well. Another term I wasn't sure about. Cheers.

Another thing you could play with is chopping up your vocal and building an sfz file for Rapture or DimPro. My personal preference would be Rapture.
