You can use something like Audials for pretty cheap.

interesting both of you have issues with recording.. I'd have tried WDM or MME really.. errm also check your windows "default" hardware device  isn't messing with the recording rather perhaps ?

or when switching between apps again.. if the bit depth is changed that might be faffing it up

in your windows recording properties you'll find an "advanced" section.. and under there you should able to get 48k
also.. if it's set at 44.1 then yer i might be tripping it up. there is also other "record what you hear" options in that device manager bit .. again that depends on the soundcard itself.. I guess someone who writes drivers for soundcards would give you a far better view (not that I'm unsubtly hint or nowt :) )

p.s. karl.. if that works.. I want ya next sonar vid free..haha

Hi Fog........ I'm pretty sure the answer to getting Camstudio recording audio from the DAW is something to do with the Windows mixer, I can't for the life of me remember but I def got it working.

With my current set up Camtasia just refuses to open my main device's driver if Sonar has it locked at 48 despite Camtasia having 48 selected in the audio options. Interestingly your post has just made me think that I may just have had a "Doh... " moment. I'll need to check when I get back to base, but I've a feeling that my other audio device I use for Camtasia output is set at 44.1. Obviously Camtasia can't work with two different rates at the same time so may well be overriding the settings to match the output.

It won't affect my monitoring as I'm doing that via audio connections through my mixer so it'll only affect the digital one.

I'll try changing the output device and see what happens but I have a feeling that may well be it.

have a look in the advanced bit in recording on windows device setup for a start.. if it's using the same 48k , then it's got one less thing to moan / complain about or basically eliminate. Each card can be crippled to not show standard windows features etc. in the default windows setup.. so it's tricky to say what your cards allow / don't allow without owning em.

some cards have the "records what you hear" others don't.. does it have to be 48k ? I mean can't you just change the rate afterwards if your managing 44.1 ?

I would say either WDM or MME is probably better suited to the task tbh. as I guess it deals with task/app switching better and the fact "asio" really is primarily a DAW / pro audio standard.

I'll let ya know if the corel thing supports it after I faff about with it hehe , but am currently "battling" with an eprom programmer that has very wonky crashing software

Yeah, the Sonic Cell runs at 44.1 or 48 but although I use it as a "Windows" soundcard I actually bought it for the synth side.

My main interface is a ZED-R16 which will run all the way up to 96 but WDM isn't an option for that due to crap drivers. It only exposes 8 of the 18 in/outs so I really need to run ASIO with that.

BTW I can record from both fine unless the Sonar project is at 48 in which case Camtasia just refuses to open the driver.

Anderton - Thanks for the Hypercam suggestion.  It works much better than the free microsoft screen recorder!  That thing was headaches.

Here's one way I have gotten around the microphone and audio recording at the same time.

Open Audacity and use my webcam mic for my narrative.  Then record the screen capture.  Then put both together in Vegas, make a movie...insert the movie into Sonar and -redo- my VO with a better mic, no stutters, coughs etc.., export new VO and add to Vegas movie.

There are still some kinks to work out, but it works.
