There were a lot of automation enhancements in X1, and others more in X2.
I printed the pages of the documentation and studied them ; it has been very useful and necessary (i use very often automation, and it is now a real pleasure - i remember Sonar 4 ;-) !).

Automated crash reporting.
That's pretty hilarious!

Working well here too.   Not much to add though since pretty much everything I like about it has been covered.

I do have a 90 minute, 16 track live gig mix project that I'm about to begin, so I'm particularly looking forward to using CE, BREVERB, automation enhancements, timline zoom, left/right-click selection, etc.   All stuff I've already used, but not on a project like this.

My Success story is that my songwriting buddy and I (the Balancines) were voted as the No 1 track on a Radio station here in UK over this last christmas...... Cambridge105fm. I was very proud and it (Red Kite) along with the rest of the tracks on the EP, it was all recorded, tracked, mixed and mastered in the box with Sonar X2.

I have issues with the software too, but I love my Sonar and its helped an old boy feel young again.

The EP is here.  http://www.reverbnation.com/thebalancines

Don't be too critical and take it all away !!!

Cheers

Sorry I bailed guys. Needed food and sleep and spent this morning doing a bit of sound proofing around my door. Glad this kept going and thanks Scott for posting those links. They'll be going in my pile of bookmarks.

Hope you are all having a good day and thanks again for sharing the positive experiences. Despite the little bit of snark I think you all know as well as I that even though it's not perfect (what is in this world?) that Sonar is a very unique and interesting program and offers a heck of a lot for the price. That's why I bought it and use it and I'm sure the same goes for many of us... even the snarkers. Otherwise we wouldn't be here.

Cheers.

Cakewalk has been my software of choice because that's what I liked when getting into computer recording in late 90's, got used to it and it has never held me back and has been good. My first machine I had lots of problems with drop outs but managed. The machine in specs has been great. If I get the opportunity to build another machine, I'm really due, I'll upgrade to cakes latest and greatest. I'm sure I'll always be critical of things like control surfaces listed but not working correctly etc. Someone mentioned color options listed but do nothing. Sorry guys but that is unfinished software.

@WDI... I was working through every feature in the manual and a startling amount of stuff just doesn't work. Fortunately most of it isn't really imperative to my style but it is a little odd that those things are still there. I can only assume they are remnants of Sonar's past and has been replaced with more effective and modern methods. It would be nice if it got cleaned up a bit but for the most part the things I need it to do it does and a lot of that stuff isn't advertised. It is still in the manual though which can cause a lot of confusion for a newbily n00b such as myself.

But that's a little too negative for this thread. Another nice thing about Sonar is the fast moving forum which quickly helps me confirm whether something is known to be broken or if I'm just screwing something up.

I've been putting scratch tracks together for a new album the past week or so. Despite the quirks the Ruler Zoom, Take Lanes, improved audio engine and PRV have been making things a lot easier on me for tracking and preliminary editing versus X1. I've already mixed a couple tunes using some of the new effects last fall and they're great too. Particularly TH2 and R-Mix and X2 seems to handle the LP-64 effects much better because I don't lose sound when making tweaks (audio engine improvements).

You?

I have my little gremlins here and there, but overall I am finding that X2a seems to be just "there" quietly doing its job and that's fine by me.  Really, at the end of the day, that's more than enough.  When I open X2, I feel more at home...
