When I open X2, I feel more at home...

You know... this is something I may not have really stressed enough here. X1 was very foreign and difficult for me to use. It was cool and all but I was having a real hard time figuring out how to do basic stuff and I seemed to be tripping over myself quite a bit. It was... awkward. Once I installed X2 I was flying through stuff much easier. That was mostly due to the ruler zoom and the take lanes I think. It may have been I was just more experienced in the Sonar way at that point but I don't think so. It just... fits better, despite the quirks.

Cheers, man. I hope you've been having a better time working through some of the issues the program was giving you. :-)

Peter and Beepster both you guys expressed the advantage of X2 exceedingly well. I was relatively at ease with X1 when it came out. I had some time to read the manual and was able to get an understanding of the philosophy behind it. Yet it would cause me a little head scratching from time to time. It also took me longer than it should have to figure out the menu system. Where things were was sometimes not where I expected them to be. That is in the past for me, mostly. X2 does feel better and looks better too. It seems to have more power with how I want things done. You all mention things I believe contribute to that over all feeling.

Keep it up guys. Your posts are not going unnoticed.

It also took me longer than it should have to figure out the menu system.

One thing I would like to see is a consolidated global menu for every single menu within the general Sonar program. Kind of like a God Mode. Have it all laid out so you pop open this menu then you have the sub menus for every view, area, screen, etc...

That is one of the more confusing elements of the X series (or perhaps Sonar in general as I've never used previous versions) for me. It seems certain very important features are tucked away in odd places that one wouldn't automatically think to look. If they were all in one place even if the elements not being currently used in the project are grayed out I think it would help people not only be able to access things when they have a brainfart or haven't fully grasped the program it would help the user actually see what features, tools, options etc are available to them.

Not saying replace the current system... just have one massive menu that covers it all. I said God Mode because those familiar with God Mode in Win 7 understand how very very cool and useful it is to have all possible options and settings in one place.

Cheers.

My positive comment is that I'm getting more music done, and faster. No one specific feature, just "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts" deal.

Then again, I don't use Staff View LOL. Although actually, I guess technically that's not true because I use the guitar neck view sometimes, and that's part of Staff View.

Yeah, GodMode is a pretty cool hack that also works in Vista. Here's the info...

Often overlooked is its overall educational aspects. It covers everything from composition to prudicing very well. I don't know why cake don't market it like that along with 64bit audio engine etc.

Gotta be careful with the God Mode in Vista though. Some users have reported instability and crashes when implementing it in Vista. In Win 7 it's absolutely heaven sent though.

When I first found out about it I was a little peeved that MS didn't make that a default option because it is much more similar to the old XP control panel. After a while though I realized that a large number of current PC users would likely end up screwing up their systems poking at it... thus the muck around that is the Win 7 options menus. Even still though the way Win 7 handles settings even in default mode is still pretty easy to navigate.

Cheers, Scott.
