  • BUG FOUND? Plugin Layouts Only Show Pre-Installed Plugins

Hello, I think I hit upon a bug in Sonar X2.

-I created my own custom layouts for audio plugins and soft synths. (must use subfolders)
-I saved them as files and set them as the default layouts.
-If you look in the Browse using the Plugins tab, they look fine.
-BUT if you try to use your plugin layouts on lets say the Synth tab or adding an audio effect in the track view... all you see is a select few (seems like the ones Cakewalk comes with).  I have a folder in mine called "Native Instruments", and it shows up in PLUGINS, but not when you are in the Synth Browser)

This is become very annoying as I am forced to use Cakewalk's default plugin layouts.

Anyone else having this issue?

You can use any layout you want, select the layout by clicking the downarrow on the Plugins tab in the browser.

Hi Scook,

I know this and I am choosing my own plugin layouts this way.  Very odd behavior.  It even shows my custom folders, BUT only Cakewalk pre-installed synths in there, even though there are others i added in there.

I assume that you have done this, but have you forced a re-scan (and check "include failed plugs" or whatever they call it)? Might help. Good luck with it, Ed

Well, I just created new plugin layouts and started from scratch, doing EVERYTHING the same... it worked this time :)

There's no explaining computers :)

I have experienced the same issues. I am now using Sonar's default menu layouts, I had to organize my actual VST folders outside of sonar just do deal with the problem. Very frustrating especially after you spent time creating a custom menu layout.

FWIW, I've had no problems creating my own layouts. Paul

My guess is that you have locked Screensets. In a Screenset the plugin menu layout is saved as well so if they are saved and locked with the default Cakewalk Plugin layout this will show up everytime you select the Screenset. Try unlocking the Screenset, choose your custom layout and lock it again. Save this in your Normal template as well and every new project will have this set up to your liking.

If you experience this in un-locked Screensets or if you have already saved and locked the custom layout , however, then there's definitely a bug somewhere. I have experienced what you see here but found that locked Screensets was what caused it. but I have to add that I don't experience any unexpected issues with the plugin layouts in my install.

Hope this helps

I've seen the same issue. When changing from default layout to my own, only some of the cake-plugins would show (not all). I used the default setting as a template and saved it as a new setting. I don't use that many plugins so I just changed it back to the default setting. Seems like you found a workaround, but still it's kinda annoying to do everything from scratch.
