Hi,
did someone of you know which  drum-computer/-machine or drumset is
session drummers´s 3  dark lord of the seth ?

By the way, the master class video´s on  drumproduction  are really great,
specially the tricks mentioned  on the step sequencer (velocity,swing......),
which allow a real human feel and sound! Thanks ,Cakewalk!!!!

It sounds like a generic drum machine simulation could be from a Roland TR-808 a  Roland TR-909 or a Linn 9000
It's very basic though.

i agree, those videos are awesome and it shows the type of flexability of session drummer and the things you can do with it.
for instance,i use seesion drummer as a triggering device at times.
sample a drummers live kick,snare,ride,hats,exc.
then i drop then in one by one into session  drummers pieces.

the other thing i like is the ease of use.its really straight forward.
the drums are laid out and routed right to the console, like in real life.

more often than not im using a board to mike a real drum kit.
but there are those cases where drum replacment is needed or youve packed up the kit and at a later point in the project realize there is something you just dont like.
this is when sampling comes into play.
this is one of the reasons im not a person who has bought the expantion packs.
in my opinion, with one clean good sample with a good signal to noise ratio..you can make that kick sample sound like anything you want using effects.

nice posts man.

Thanks Steve,
that´s a good hind . It´s very interesting to me cause I´m  in
a complete new situation with the drums on some songs,
which are nearly at the end mix.
This records have reached a quality which I ever dreamed of (sorry, but I will release them later this year),
this are my first alone managed tracks),
but the drumsounds are the sounds which I really disregarded too much.
And now it takes more work than I ever imagined to make them sound naturely.

And thanks to Charlie for the reply,
it´s good to here from one who is experienced in drum production.
So I know I´m the right groove with that and don´t waste time.

Anyone out there who has more detailed info´s bout that  "dark lord of the seth"
drumkit?

Pete

The kit consists samples from different sources as the names of the samples indicate. The kicks are "dlotskit-kick.sfz" (I'm assuming that stands for dark lord of the seth), snare, cymbals and high hats are similarly named, but toms are 808 toms. There is also an 808 cymbal on the percussion pads. The rest of percussion is from the sonic reality samples. I'm guessing the "Seth" in the name of the custom samples could be Seth Perlstein of Cakewalk who pops up on these forums. Not sure if he would reveal his sample source.

Pragi. you are welcome. Are you aware that the names of the samples are displayed in the "drum" area of the SD3 interface? Took me forever to notice.

That video is really REALLY helpful and should be watched by anyone intending on doing MIDI drums whether they are using SD3 or not. When I started using BFD for my drum tracks almost all of the stuff he talks about applied. Very cool.

Dup,
no,till  now I haven´t perceived this feature,
even realized that it´s in the SD 3 drumkit view  left below .
Great
Some drumtracks on this project are performed  by Toontracks SD drummer .
I was in doubt that it´s possible to create those analog (human)sounding drums with the Session drummer 3.

But now ,with the help of the Step sequencer and this awesome masterclass vids,
SD 3 is going to be more and more satisfying .

What do you guys think:
Is it possible to create natural sounding drums with Step Seq.. and SD 3 ?

Definitely but I've moved on to using the PRV because I like to get a little wackier with my beats. Probably best to get your hands dirty and manipulate the velocities and stuff manually when using the step sequencer though. However using the humanize stuff first then tweaking things manually takes a lot of the effort out of it.

Most of my focus on learning production this past year has been geared towards getting realistic sounding drum parts together as I sadly can no longer play live drums.
