The nicer airlines supply pillows for you to use.

(To smother those around you that are being loud and annoying.)

"I know that it costs a bunch to make an injection mold, but I dislike the whole notion of status symbol plastic."

I know nothing of "status symbol" so it's not part of my
decision making with glasses, clothing, vehicles or just about anything
that I spend my money own.
I'm glad I don't have my taste distorted by what others may think...and not saying
you do Mike..but you brought it up.

It was a simple process for me.
I made an appointment to have my eyes checked. Time for lense correction so
I looked around at all the frames offered...picked the ones I liked..answered
a few questions about the options I'd like to have...and paid them.

Snob, status symbol, brand names (were noticed because the frames were grouped
in sections and display cases) and probably some other **** that I don't think about, never crossed my mind.
I guess if they had I probably would have picked the Harley frames...maybe next time
they'll have some I like more than some others, maybe not. Like, don't like...pretty simple.
I do wish I'd gotten the shades polarized too....next time.

Not specifically for progressives, but more about the frames... My optometrist, who only offers erious boutique haute couture frames, will swear up and down that the cheaper frames are utter crap and will warp, etc... "there's no telling how long they've been sitting in a warehouse and what conditions they are stored in..."

Whatever, lady.

I have several pairs of glasses from coastal.com (first order = free frames, and they do have designer frames and nice lenses) and from zennioptical.com (made in china, practically free non-designer frames, ok lenses).  The last pair of non-progressive glass I bought from zennioptical cost me less than $60 WITH photochromatic lenses and an anti scratch coat.  They offer $9 frames and free base level lenses, too.  So, really, you can get a pair for less than $20 with shipping.  I even bought my son's latest pair with them (photochromatic, too).

Are the the best lenses?  probably not.  But I have like, four pairs, so who cares?

I wouldn't necessary recommend them for progressives, but for FRAMES... You can often have your Doc fill the lenses.  And, you can virtually try them on by uploading a picture, and it's probably saying too much about me, but it's more fun than I have loading the dishwasher.

So there's a Progressive genre of frames too?  What about New Age or Punk?  Ya?

There are.  New Age lenses cause you to look inside yourself while you trip over the furniture.  Punk lenses just poke you in the eye.
