I’ll share whatever I want. Windows issues are well known and for you to all say, “I NEVER HAVE ANY ISSUES EVER” is just ****. Seriously, it’s OK to say your rig hiccups. I’ve been a Windows defender for years, but they can’t get their **** together. They had to give Windows 10 away for free. I rest my case.

Yeah windows with sonar for a long time and never had those kind of problems except one time when my hard drive actually died.

Relax, Jimmy.  I believe what dubdisciple meant was that others here just don't share your experience (Not that you shouldn't share it).  I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

The issues with Windows 8 were related to the Metro UI which was universally hated by desktop users. There was nothing inherently unstable or buggy about it, and you could have the classic Windows experience with a little effort. Since XP the only Windows version which has widely been considered a turkey was Vista, and even that was related to specific drivers and compatibility problems. If you didn't use those drivers you didn't have a problem, and I was one of those people. Vista was problem free for me. Since then I've used 7, 8 and Windows 10, all without major problems. Most of my Sonar crashes have been related to specific plugins, and I have had no problems with performance or stability when using other software, including the Adobe suite.

So when someone shows up yelling "WINDOWS IS BS" and accuses others who don't share his experience of being liars, it suggests a certain personality type. That personality might well also be influencing his interactions with his computer.

Never understood this exaggerated, drama-laden Windows bashing. I've used Windows forever and have never had a single major problem with it. Even through Vista. Never had a Sonar problem that was Windows' fault. I hear these people saying "Windows sucks" and reeling off a bunch of critical failures that I wonder what in the hell theyre doing with their machines to see so often.

I agree. I may not be a 'power user' but I've had years of trouble-free recording with various versions of Sonar on an XP machine, and no problems at all in the last year with W10 since upgrading to it, and to Sonar Professional at the same time.

JonD is correct. That is exactly how I meant it. Thought that was obvious, but i will make sure to spell it out. Yes, we have all had some computer issue, but overall, I don't have anymore issues with windows than ant other OS. More importantly, when i do have an issue, i find it easier to fix in windows than mac. My mac issues can be nightmarish when they occur. Fortunately my mac computer does one thing only

Last time I saw the "blue screen of death" was probably 20 years ago and the last serious issues I had were on my old Vista laptop. I don't think they were so much issues with Windows itself as much as it being grossly overtaxed.

I believe the real reason you hear so much more about problems with Windows as opposed to Mac is that the Mac user base is a spit in the ocean compared to Windows.

The problem with Win 10 is that there are Mac users who joke that Win 8 was that bad they had to give away Win 10. LOL and there are plenty of Mac users using old Macs to keep their Protools Rig going.

I've used both Macs and Windows machines for a long time, with various iterations of their various OSes, from Win 3.0 and Mac System 3 to the present day - Macs via work, Windows PCs at home and work. Both are great, both do their job.

For music, I've been running Cakewalk on a PC for 20 years, and I've never had any significant problems with stability -- expect for one brief period a couple years ago, when I had regular blue screen crashes on my PC, which turned out to be a failing motherboard. My current machine is built by me from the best parts I could buy, and it has been rock stable for the last year. I've had no Sonar related crashes (in fact, almost no crashes at all) in that time. And I find Windows 10 to be a very good OS -- better than Windows 7 (which I used for quite a few years), and way better than Vista and Windows 8 (both of which I used briefly, and neither of which I liked).

I am happy to be on a PC using Sonar. I would also have no problem switching to Mac and Logic if I needed to change to a new DAW and OS, for some reason. We are actually really fortunate to be living and working in a time when these kinds of tools are available to us, and are affordable to just about everyone. From the most modest PC to the highest end Mac there is something for everyone to make music with, on any budget and any skill level, and with a toolset that would have been unavailable to anyone 40 years ago. I think that's actually pretty damn cool.
