They gave away win10 because they realized it was more beneficial to get more people on board with windows 10. People with older computers were less likely to switch so they were not going to get paid upgrade money anyway on a large scale. They still got license money on new computer sales with oem win 10 installed.

Seriously, this is still a thing? Is there a more boring, pointless thing to do in the world than bash Windows on software forums? If Windows doesn't work for you, use something else. End of discussion. Don't tell me I'm lying that it works for me because it doesn't work for you. It works for me. Very well. It's a very good OS. Not the only one, and not perfect, but a very good one. Given the range of hardware it runs on and the total lack of control MS has over that and the expectations people have of it, and the stupid misinformation that floats around about how terrible it is, it's practically a miracle how solid and stable it actually is for the vast majority of users. Most problems are hardware or user error. Deal with it. I can imagine it sucks if you're having recurring problems, but projecting them onto other people isn't going to solve them.
