Just to throw this tip in as well...

The pitch range can also be changed for many/most synths (softsynths and hardware) that respond to MIDI controller messages.  This way you can extend beyond the default of +/-2 tones.  I used to have to set this to +/- 12 semitones from my guitar synth when accessing sounds from other modules to have the synth sounds match the bends on my guitar strings.

I'm guessing that most synths have a configuration that'll let you set the bend range directly, but if you are interested in knowing what the MIDI events are I can look it up for you from an old project.

You may already know this but just thought Id mention it in case it helps.  Being able to set the bend range along with pitch wheel events you should be able to accomplish your goal, but maybe not as easily or in the manner that you'd like to.

yeah I know this.

Just dont want to have to go in and find the pitch range in every synth I wnat to do drastic or smooth gradually pitch changes to. But, if this is the only feasible way, so shall it be.

Many of the patches you come across in Dim Pro/Rapture etc will have their pitch bend range defaulting to 2 semitones. If you want more than this you'll have to edit the patch.
But if you use the Pitch Envelope, the range is 2 octaves for Dimension Pro and 8 octaves for Rapture.  I don't know about Rapture LE though.

You might be able to avoid going into the settings of each synth by sending MIDI RPN messages to the respective channel(s) in order to set the bend range.

Here's an image from one of my old projects that was based around MIDI files I worked on in early versions of Cakewalk Pro Audio, which allowed me to set the bend range across all internal softsynths and external hardware synths.  I haven't done this recently, but back when I used to do this a lot it worked flawlessly.

As I recall you need to send, at the beginning of the song (on any track), an RPN of "Pitch Bend Sensitivity" with a value of 128 * x
(where x represents the number of semi-tones you want the bend range to have).

Would that help at all?

I could try that.

Thanks,
