Hi,

I don't know much about VST's or plug-ins as I just use what comes up in the tabs.    Sonar 7 doesn't have a quarter of what my Home Studio 2004 XXL has.

I have been trying to get the effects and studio ware that I have in my
Home Studio 2004 XXL (Which had an awesome array of tools/effects) to work on Sonar 7.

Do I copy them to the 'My Documents\Cakewalk\Sonar Home Studio 7\Sample Content' or to the shared plugins folder, or is there some other method?

I would really like to use the effects I am familiar with, but don't see them when I bring up the window for effects.

Any help would be appreciated in relieving the frustration and musical constipation this is causing.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Intel Pentium Pro Dual-Core 2.0GHz 3 GB Ram on a Dell Studio laptop with the Audigy Advanced Motherboard and IDT Hi-Def audio.  I am also using a 4GB SD Card for ReadyBoost.

Thanks,

Where on earth did you get a legitimate copy of HS 7 ?? They haven't been available for 6-7 years!
I don't know anything about Sonar HS 2004, couldn't find spex with Google. Anyway, it is old, as well as HS 7. There might be some compatibility issues concerning the old DX /VST instruments maybe?? If HS7 supports both DXs and VSTs (I know it supports VSTs) you should be ok.

The sample folder has got nothing to do with effects, it's for samples (obviously!). In my SONAR 6 Producer the VSTs went to Steinberg/Plugins -folder as default. Don't now about vs. 7.

Hi,

Got them to work.

I have had my copy since it was published.  Just took really good care of it.
And yes, it supports DX's, VST's, and Midi.   Just had to search for the default VST's and
dropped all the .dll's for the VST's.   This was only for effects though.

I have a file for surfaces.   I am assuming these are for the gui's of the studio ware, but am not sure.     If anyone is familiar with this, I would appreciate a run-down.

Thank you,

The Badger

It's nowhere near as old as that, as it was released after Sonar 8PE.  In fact it's the most recent edition of Home Studio.

Ok, my bad. I've thought the version numbers have  gone hand in hand with bigger versions.

The version numbering went crazy after 8.  Home Studio went backwards while the main Sonar only advanced by half to 8.5.

Confused?  You should be.

To make it even more fun, Home Studio 7, Music Creator 5, and Guitar Tracks Pro 4 were all derived from Sonar 8.
The interfaces of these three products are virtually identical, but resemble no other Cakewalk products.
SHS ceased to exist after 7, and became X1 Essential (which once again shares the format of the flagship X1, as did previous versions). Music Creator 6 follows the X1 format.
Man, I'm getting dizzy just writing this.

LOL

While were on the topic of Home Studio.   I also have a mint copy of Home Studio XL Ver. 2.   It has some nice effects too, but I don't think they're compatible because I can't even open them with any of my other DAW's.

Anyway, if anybody can fill me on surfaces, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
